Raised beds appears to be the way to go.
These folks did an awesome job with their raised bed garden.

Got them all but thai, beets, but then I have an established herb section with, oregano, thyme,3 varieties, cilantro, chives, parsley, rosemary, and basil green and purple. Might be some others

Assuming one has good soil, any type of garden is good if you have full sunlight, which I don't. My 8 x 12 raised bed gets 6-7 hours of direct sunlight in June. Other months, less. And that's the sunniest spot I have.

Leaf crops grow fine, as do zooks. Cherry 'maters, okay. Peppers, fugget about it -- the plants won't even grow, much less produce fruit.
