The man had just held up a nearby Bank of America, Miami Beach Police say, and had armed himself with a straight razor from a barbershop before he was shot.

The confrontation started about 10:30 this morning when a hold-up alarm at the 1414 Alton Road Bank of America alerted police; the suspect said he was armed with a bomb, the teller told police.

When officers arrived, the suspect ran into a nearby barber shop and grabbed a straight-edge razor, says Det. Kathleen Prieto. "Shots were fired and the subject is deceased," she says in a statement.

Police have not released the man's name yet.

A video, uploaded by Marcellus Johnson, a Miami-based event photographer, shows the disturbing story unfolding. The video — shot in front of a framing store near 15th Terrace and Alton Road — shows a shirtless man clad in jeans walking down the middle of Alton Road toward officers with their weapons raised. Shortly after the man puts his hands on a police cruiser, one of the cops fires, and the man falls to the ground clutching his chest.

Johnson wrote this about the moment: "Miami Beach Police Officers tried to talk him down, but he just wouldn't cooperate. Early morning shenanigans on Miami Beach. I just want my coffee with 3 creams and 3 sugars."

Miami-Dade police will investigate the shooting, Prieto says. The FBI and MBPD will take on the bank robbery investigation. As police work the scene, Alton Road is closed to traffic between 15th and 16th streets.

razor...yes, it's a deadly weapon. police are generally trained that an attacker can cover 21 feet or so faster than they can draw and shoot one shot.

having a razor in his hand and acting in an aggressive manner is sufficient. hell, even bare handed running toward the police would suffice. think you can't get beat to death with fists and feet?

Looking at it a few more times, and I can't exactly quantify it, but I think rifle guy misfired. I don't think he meant to shoot the guy.

Cop on the left has a taser and fires it at the suspect, you hear it go off a split-second before the first gunshot.

I think when the cop on the left fires his taser, it startled rifle guy and he reacts.

I know that someone with a knife can be very dangerous and can charge quickly. What I don't understand is, in a situation like this, why wouldn't protocol be to back away to allow for some ability to talk the suspect down.

It just seems to me they fired too quickly.

I feel so bad for that guy getting shot and killed. I mean, ya just can't go robbing places and then confronting the po-po with a razor.

Further, no one forced him to rob the bank. Also, no one forced him to confront the po-po with a razor. If one is willing to go outside of normal, law abiding citizens then one may start a series of occurrences that can be deadly.

Taser tripped the trigger happy gun man. I wouldn't be surprised if the perp's family don't sue for wrongful death.

Regardless, it was a happy ending, but I bet the first trigger man gets a reprimand.

Like I said, I can't quite quantify it, but the body language of rifle guy and the other officers indicates to me that the first shot was a surprise to everyone involved.

Anything anyone comes out with right now is opinion or speculation anyway.

Other side of car guy is holding a taser, not a firearm. You can see cop on left fire his taser. Cop on left and rifle guy are the only two that use their weapons.
