Need Weed Eater opinions
I need to get a new gas lawn trimmer. My yard is large and very hostile to weak ass girlie man tools. I want one that will start every time, isn't a fkn pain in the ass to re-string every weekend and will cut down a fence post.
Thoughts ? |

And despite their reputation, don't buy a Stihl. Mine has proved to be an ineffective POS: Hard to crank, uses string like a hungry animal, constant repairs by the dealer. Right now it's in the shop for a carb rebuild because of gunk...even though it had no gas in it over the Winter.

I've put my Toro through hell. I'm happy with it. Gotta let it warm up a bit, but then, look out.

Stihl.
BIL owns a lawn service. He has 3 of them. All 3 are used hard every day. 2 of them are over 10 years old, no issues with any of them. |

I have an Echo now that is awesome.
I had a Stihl that I got from my dad that I have since passed on to a friend when I got the new one... must be at least 20 years old now. Still works like new. |

Our company mows and clears pipeline ROW. We use Stihl FS 110's exclusively. You can run string (105) or the tri star blade that WILL cut down a fence post or a medium sized sapling, should you so choose. Just as an aside, we used to use Echo products years back. I've still got an Echo blower going strong after maybe 12-14 years. The Echo weed eaters, however......scrap metal.....all of them.
Last time I checked, they (the FS 110's) were about $ 350, you can usually get a little break if you haggle. |

ECHO is tits...
ECHO doesnt make a single solitary "home owner" grade unit, they are ALL commercial grade across the board, meaning the power head to the gearbox, is made to last. The SRM225, which is their smallest straight shaft trimmer, is awesome, 22cc's and it sips gas, yet..can handle a brush blade, .105 dual line heads, and Ive personally used one with the brush blade to trim limbs off a low hanging pecan tree...it works. It also retails around 199.99 at dealers, or..if you are a Senior, or have military ID (VA or otherwise) you can get the same unit at Home Depot...10% off. Its also very light, well balanced, and a cinch to start hot or cold. Numerous lawn care companies, at least locally, are dropping stihl and husky and going full Echo...there is a reason for this and its not just price. |

I have ten years of abuse on my Echo.
Only issue is it's a little tougher to fire and the primer bulb gave out. Two screw fix. |

Echo. My Dad's lasted every bit of 20 years. He purchased it in 1980. Finally had to let it go because the parts were no longer available. They built them mofo's right back then....
Echo is dope! |

I looked at the SRM225 at lunch and it looks pretty good. 5 year warranty is darn impressive.
I also saw some 4 stroke Honda trimmers. Anyone have an opinion on those? No mixing fuel sounds like a nice perk. Thoughts ? |

I've never ownd a 4-stroke, but I've used one. First, it's heavy. Second, the head spins in the wrong direction. Third, it didn't have a feed-out string, just the short lengths that you have to relace every few minutes. It was a Honda.
