Default Hah, how awesome is this?

My buddy Andy got a hole in one tonight in our hard-core golf league. We play year-round and as long as a course is open, we play. Tonight was 39 degrees, and Andy hit a 19 degree hybrid on a 250-yard par 4 that ended up in the hole. It's a short par 4, sure, but it's still awesome!

Here's Andy!

And yes, he took everybody out for drinks afterwards! The funny thing is, we just had 7 people show up tonight (very low number) and decided to all play together. Him and his random partner shot 6 under for the night (2 man scram). My partner and I? 2 over. We tied with one other team for last. One dude played 2 shots on each hole and shot a very respectable 2 under.

Before Andy hit his tee shot on 9 he was bitching about not being able to hit driver and he was terrible with woods. I said, and I quote "Whatever, suck it up buttercup!" He hit his shot and it looked good. I said "Well, that's just awful." We laughed but nobody knew what was going to happen when we walked to the hole.

Hole in ones are rare. They are exceedingly rare on par 4's. I feel quite privileged to have witnessed one.

They are rare enough under normal conditions but playing this time of year in the Mid West...Congrats to Andy

I used to play in a similar "hard core league" when I lived in PA. We would play all winter. Pro Tip....You don't want to hit it fat when the ground is frozen!

No kidding. My partner tonight hit every tee shot fat for the first 6 holes. We play under lights once it gets dark this time of year, and as soon as the lights turned on he hit some solid shots. I told him that he's a great golfer as long as sun isn't involved.

BTW, it was 39 degrees when Andy hit that shot. 19 degree hybrid, 250 yards, soft ground from the recent ice and snow, dark. Damn.

I remember playing a couple of times when the water hazards on our "home course" were frozen. You could try to skip a ball across a pond that there was no way you could carry under normal conditions. Also you could not hit your approach to the green...had to land in front and then bounc/roll on because there was no way a shot hitting the green would hold.

Miss those days

That's great!

I got a hole in one myself one time, albeit on a Par 3 hole. It was on the Pine Creek course on Golden Tee '97. Everyone in the place went wild.

Very cool!!

My hole in one (182 yards) came 10 years ago. I'm due again. Come to think about it, I suppose I need to be out playing golf again for that to happen.

This would be cool to see, even more to do it yourself

But for some reason I didn't think of you as a golfer, and always thought you and your buddy's would be playing pool at some smoke filled tittie bar.. with lots of $1's on the table

That's OK, lots of people don't think of me as a golfer!

I have a tournament this Saturday, a 2-man best ball, called the Snowman tournament. My brother will be my partner. It was rescheduled from February due to snow. Yeah, that's right, the Snowman tournament was postponed due to snow.

WW! That is very awesome! Congrats to your friend.

I played golf for about 7 years and only came close once. It was a 174 yard hole and the ball was about an inch left of the hole and rolled right passed. Needless to say I was rather disappointed.

I had one land about 1 foot past the hole, and roll back due to spin and end up 1 foot in front of the hole. The ball, the cup, and the ball mark were in a straight line.

Congrats to your buddy! Ace on a 4 is quite a feat. Send the info into the USGA and they should send him a certificate.
I've got 7 aces, and 2 double eagles, but never aced a par 4. Driven several, but the closest I ever came was about a foot and a half.

That was one long, clean drive.

Great commemorative photo.

I pretend to golf once in a while and can't imagine a hole in one.

Think that's bad? I've seen the same guy fly the ball into the hole TWICE. Ball bounced out both times. He was PISSED!
