Default Future Gun Show Visitors...Can You Check Something Out For Me ?

I'm debating whether to get the
1) S&W 642 Airweight. Or
2) S&W 640 Pro

I really am leaning toward the 640 Pro.
If you get a chance, while browsing, just check prices for me on the 640 Pro.
So far I've found this, as the least expensive..http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=285006107

Gun Review: Smith & Wesson Model 640 Pro Series | The Truth About Guns

I don't know if I should get one at a gun show, or online...
Thanks.

you can't go wrong with either.

The 640 Pro is one gorgeous handgun, and I believe comes factory with tritium sights; is about 10 ounces heavier than the airweight (as the 640 Pro is all steel, no aluminum). It has a 11-12 lb trigger. IMO... that's right in line with what a CCW weapon should have; but many won't like it; and will opt to lessen the trigger pull.

Is this going to be a carry piece for you ?

Yes, I'll carry it.
I have shot the Airweight, and it's a great point and shoot gun. I really do like it.
I have yet to shoot the 640 Pro, as of yet, though. I hear .38 special ammo is very smooth, while .357 ammo is really a bitch. That's to be expected though. I want the versatility to be able to use .38 special, +P, and .357.
Have you shot the 640 Pro ?

I'd bet money. Even the 642 I have is a 15 foot gun. At that distance, the hollow point +P's are going to get the job done. That .357 looks pretty sweet though, but I'm sure it's got a little bite to it.

They're basically speed loaders. 3 moon clips come with the gun. You load 5 into the moon clip, and insert the entire thing into the gun. After battery, they will eject in one unit, still in the moon clip.
You see that the cylinder is cut out for the moon clips.....Pretty cool....

The one that I posted in the OP sold in one day at the Buy Now price of $645.00, $15.00 shipping..... Damn....

I would seriously stay away from a gun with moon clips if you are using them in a tactical situation. Having used them they have several disadvantages.

One, if any foreign matter gets under the moon clip it could prevent the cylinder from turning or closing.

Two, the moon clip gives you less stability when inserting the rounds into the cylinder than a speed loader does because you are using Fine Motor Skills. In the article he mentions that the clips are faster. This is not true if the speed loader is used properly. When you drop the rounds in the cylinder, in a tactical situation, the loader is junk to get rid of. All you do is close the cylinder and the loader drops to the ground.

Third, you cannot top off. If you use a round, you cannot replace it unless you replace the clip. I always like the option of topping off.

I'm not a copper, so I won't be in many tactical situations......
Basically, 5 shots will get me to my shot gun, if a home defense situation occurs. I'll have another 28 shots in 9mm if that don't get me quite there..
Basically it will be a self defense carry weapon. If I can't make it happen in 5 shots I have bigger problems than that.
This will be for my wife to carry too, as I have a Ruger LC-9 to carry.

hey Jeff

I went to the Fort Worth Show today and only saw one SW 640 in the 357 Mag caliber. I don't remember seeing Pro Series written on it. They were asking $585 for it. I did see a lot of S&W that looked exactly like it but were all 38 Special Cal and were not the 640 model number.

Yea I bought a lower assembly for my AR-15 Build I'm doing. it's a Stag brand. It’s damn hard to find stripped lowers at the moment in 5.56 / 223 cal. you can find assembled lowers and uppers everywhere and full guns. I’m on the waiting list for the following Mega Machine matching lower and upper set. Mega Arms :: Billet Set
