Default Is there anything off-limits in comedy?
In my opinion, the answer to this question depends on the audience and context...but one of my coworkers suggested that it was absolutely inappropriate to make jokes about a certain topic.

So, what does TVBOT think? Is there anything that should never be the subject of a joke? Does it matter who is making the joke, or who will hear it?

I do not think that anything is absolutely off limits generally, again, it depends upon context and audience.

He was not telling a joke, he was coming back at hecklers. In the context of a joke, nothing should be off-limits. I can then choose to listen, or not. This is much better than someone else, or the "norms", deciding on what I can hear.

I've laughed at death jokes, rape jokes, etc.

I've laughed my ass off at 9-11 jokes, and I am still angry and emotional over it.

I'm against censorship, but I personally have no problem voting with my feet if something offends me (not much does, btw).

It's when someone demands that someone else shut up because they feel offended that an injustice forms. In the name of political correctness we allow stupidity to reign supreme. And, that is a damned shame.
