I'm really surprised it's still illegal.

As progressive as our country has gotten...a weed is still illegal.

I remember joking with my friends when we were smokin the shit out of it back in the 70's & 80's...and knew when we got old and all grown up we couldn't smoke it because it was illegal...but figured it would be legal by the time we were 40 or 50.

I'm still waiting.

I hate these types of stats. It assumes people would actually do work given the "evil" went away. In reality, they'd just find another way to screw off.

Much like Facebook, the Superbowl, a million other stats that kill productivity. In fact, if you add them all up, no work is being done.

I bartended at a jazz and arts festival yesterday. Trust me, I was the most popular person at the event!!! As much as I like to drink, I think it was more fun behind the bar. By the end of the day, some of my customers were pretty wound up. Plus there were some very fine looking women that hung out with me. I didn't have a camera, so no pics. I regret not taking it now.

They tried to stop it in the 20's remember? You can't take away something from man that's part of his history down through the ages. Prohibition of booze just drove it underground, and is the single biggest reason we have organized crime today. Where there's a market and money to be made, you can bet your ass somebody will fill it! The government caved into the minority woman's movement for fear of not being re-elected and passed really stupid bills. Hmmmm, seems like not much has changed that way! Look at the idiotic "war on drugs", another of man's vices since the dawn of history. ___

The war on drugs is probably the dumbest thing in modern history. I'm not just talking marijuana either. Prohibition has never worked on anything. Legalize it all, tax and regulate it, etc. I can't imagine how many trillions we've thrown down the drain with this stupid shit. Oh, not to mention we've stuffed our prisons past capacity. Even China doesn't have as many people locked up as we do. F'n crazy. I've sent letters to my Congressmen and Senators over the years, but you never get an answer. They are the largest part of the problem.

Seriously..

California alone has more people in prisons than most countries on the planet, Only Russia beats them..

USA and their so called war on drugs has been a complete waste of time, and money...

Legalize it, Tax it, and in just one simple pen stoke, the laws change, lots are let out of Jails for non violent crimes, and move on to today? (or the future)

I say, if someone breaks a law to get money for drugs? then convict them for that crime, not for just getting high..

And for what it is worth?....

I am completely drug free here, but do enjoy my "once upon a time was illegal" Rhum

Clearly, basketball in all its evil incarnations should be made illegal. Cops should be arresting the youth when they start down the wrong path by playing HORSE. From then, it'd downhill to pickup games, then bad seed youth hanging out behind the school gym, etc.

Plus, basketball is a gateway game. It leads to football, baseball, and sports watching in general. The whole lot of sports should be banned completely.

SEATTLE (Reuters) — Office workers combing the league waiver wire for running backs or back-up quarterbacks are part of a growing number of fantasy football owners costing employers as much as $1.1 billion a week in lost productivity, according to a study released Wednesday.

During the National Football League regular season, nearly 37 million people spend an average of 50 minutes a week at work managing their fantasy teams comprised of real-life players tallying points based on statistical performance, according to outplacement consultants Challenger, Gray & Christmas
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
March Madness means $3.5 billion in lost productivity for employers .

Phoenix Business Journal

Employers will lose about $3.5 billion in wages paid to workers over the next several weeks as employees scramble to fill out and track their March Madness brackets until the men's college basketball championship game is played April 3.

Research firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas finds that even people who do not follow college basketball for the entire season get wrapped up in the excitement of March Madness, which begins March 16.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Productivity sacked
U.S. employers suffer nearly $850 million in lost productivity the week before the Super Bowl, according to a consulting firm. This estimate is based on the assumption that the average employee spends 10 minutes a workday talking about the game, planning parties, participating in betting pools, or engaging in other Super Bowl-related distractions. Employers can count on losing another $150 million or so in unproductive wages on the Monday after the game, when employees discuss their take on the game, commercials, and the halftime show.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I guess in addition to college basketball we need to ban Fantasy Football, The Super Bowl and god forbid the World Cup ever becomes big in the USA

See, that assumes people are productive 100% of their work shift.

It's just stupid stats. While people will do that, they will do something other then work regardless.

It's like music downloads. The industry says they lose millions. That assumes that every person that downloaded the song for free would actually buy it.

Nope. They would have never bought it in the first place if they couldn't get it for free, so is it really a lost sale?

I read an article recently on the inability of "Arnold" to get bills passed concerning drugs or jail terms etc. It provided excellent evidence that the major roadblock to reform was the prison guard's union! It lobbies incessantly for hiring more prison personnel, increasing wage and benefit packages, and for building more prisons! I guess they love the 3-strike rule.
It also suggested major complicity of the guards concerning drug trafficking and money laundering within the prisons! How do you stop that ball rolling???
