TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - East Toledo neighbors are stunned by the tragic and bizarre death of 62-year-old Sheila Decoster, who suffocated after falling head first into her city-issued recycling container.

Lucas County Deputy Coroner Diane Barnett told The Blade she has never seen a case like it.

The coroner says because of Decoster's position in the container, she was not able to breathe properly.

The tragedy happened Friday night at their home on the 2000 block of Caledonia.

Robert Decoster says he returned home from work around 5 p.m. and did not see Sheila Decoster's legs sticking out of the bin. Both the trash and recycling containers are on the ground next to the raised porch.

When he did see her, Decoster says he ran over and shook her leg and called out her name. But he knew she was already gone.

He says they kept the containers in that place, facing the road, to make it easier to get the large bins to the curb. He says Sheila had a bad back and also had knee replacement surgery.
