Have you tried the split coil buckers? The LP I tried that had them was underwhelming. The intent is there for the Strat sound but it fell short. Nothing sounds like a Strat in the 2 or 4 position.

Why does a Tele sound like a Tele? Why doesn't a Strat sound like a Tele in the bridge position? The sum of all the various parts make up the guitars tone not just pickups.

And putting the Jem -or any Ibanez for that matter- on that list is comical. The only possible exception could be the Iceman.

I'm still gonna give the edge to the Strat. It's never waned in its popularity like the LP. Interesting anecdote: Leo Fender wasn't a player at all. He'd build these guitars and plunk out notes and strum open strings when he was designing them. Someone in the Fullerton factory got so sick of the noise they went in one night and set the guitar up with an open tuning.

I have played a Jimmy Page LP set up with push/pull. The single was definitely hotter than my Fender Blacktop Strat with a split humbucker, but definitely didn't sound like a strat.
I am still scratching my head about the Jem, even though it is mass produced, it's basically known as "Steve Vai's guitar". It would be like including the 80's era EVH Frankenstrat.
I should just quit my job and make lame top ten lists like this.
