Holy crap
I just changed a rear shock on my C5 in 40 min.
So far I’ve done pretty well working on the car. It is pretty intimidating for an old car guy. So far I have removed and flushed the radiators (way harder than it sounds), replaced an AC compressor (seriously), repaired the drivers seat electronics (mice!) and now a magnetic shock. Time to install a supercharger. |

I truly believe the C5 will always be well regarded; it was a radical change from the C4; better in many ways.

I forgot another repair. I’ve replied my rear window in about five times. I’m a damn pro at it. It usually lasts about a year. Takes about ten minutes. Apparently a common issue with convertibles.

The C5 convertible has a glass window that is glued to the soft top. That glue lasts about 10 years. Then it starts separating. The fix is to use something called Rhino Glue (a type of superglue), clean it really well with solvent (acetone works best or toulene). Then I hit the cloth side with 80 grit sandpaper to roughen up and remove some of the adhesive left. (GM used a similar glue) - then, using a couple tricks to take the pressure off the glass (hard to explain), glue it, tape it and put weight on it overnight. Works great and not too hard to do - takes about 20 min. max. That repair lasts 2-3 years. Not great, but better than spending a couple grand on a new top. |

I thought I was hearing voices in my head, but it turned out to be the GPS. I muted it. Not sure why it was saying "Kill them all and burn the bodies" but it's quiet now.

My Miata keeps telling me to raise the headlamps and strafe slow moving idiots in our lane. I even considered downloading the soundtrack of a M2 on "whole 9 yards" burst to broadcast over the PA I have yet to install. The soundtrack would replace the horn in the car.
