The problem the way I see it is almost the same as you do except from the other direction.

I tried to get them to come up with a middle ground proposal, they couldn't/wouldn't.

Now they're trying to claim that a psych exam is needed...but what standard must one meet to "pass"?

No...they fail, again. They want all guns confiscated, simple as that. They have no intent on solving the problem, only furthering their agenda.

Luckily, we have guns, and if the SHTF, they go first.

And does anybody really want the .gov reading their psych evals?

Does anybody have ANY idea what kind of Pandora's Box that opens? IMO, if something appears unfavorable to them (highly subjective there), you're basically giving them probable cause to do whatever they want.

This psych eval is almost looking to me like a guilty-until-proven-innocent kind of thing.

Are there things that can be done on the gun ownership AND mental health fronts? Definitely. I'm just not sure a psych eval is a road we really want to travel down. But be careful what you ask for...

I have nothing to hide, but that doesn't preclude somebody making a decision about me and my mental faculties that is totally inaccurate, offbase, skewed, or otherwise negative. So, as a result, my life, freedoms, and rights, would essentially be at the mercy of some doc or desk jockey that doesn't even know me.

I think voters should have to undergo a psych eval before they are allowed to vote. Same thing with journalists before they are allowed to publish anything.

I did come up with a middle ground. Sent it to my senator rather than presenting it to the callous boneheads here.
