I am sorry to hear this, I have had 2 about 8 years apart. Both of them required a trip to the Hospital, mine got zapped with the Lithotripter Machine. Most pain I have ever been in PERIOD. I still keep at least 4 or 5 Hydros in my pocket just in case. I haven't had one now in about 10 years knock on wood, I don't know how to prevent them but I do drink at least a couple glasses of water each day...Get well soon...

sorry man...I am on stone #11 or 12.....I actually stopped counting a few years ago. I just turned 50 and have given up all dark soda, cola, tea, coffee, chocolate, and green leafy vegetaables...doc says 4 glasses of water a day but that is tough to do sometimes. I keep hydromorphone around 24/7.

Good luck with yours...drink about 3-4 qts of lemonade and pass that sucker!

Had many over the years. Then, the mother of all kidney stones, the Death Star dislodged and blocked my ureter. Kidneys backed up, passed out.

Docs put some sort of razor wire up my Wang (thats how it felt) and removed a 3/16" stone. Turns out, this thing was sitting in my kidney for years shearing off pieces.

Mine was calcium based. Haven't had one since. Not sure diet matters much. Just gotta get through it.

Will, you have to capture the stone and have it analyzed to determine which type of stone you have. Only then can you adopt the proper preventative treatment.

Mine are calcium oxalate stones. Once I determined that, I followed all of my doctors Do's and Don'ts and I have not had a stone since then.

For calcium oxalate stones:

Drink enough water to produce 70 or more oz of urine daily. If you are trying to actively pass a stone, increase this to 110 oz of urine daily. If you wait until you are thirsty to drink water, you've waited far too long. Your urine should be clear at all times; if it's yellow, you're way too low on water.

Drink at least four ounces of fresh squeezed lemon or lime juice daily. Flush your mouth out with lots of water.

Take three tablets of magnesium with chelated zinc (avail at Walmart) daily

Take one vitamin B6 tablet daily

Take potassium citrate tablets as your doctor prescribes it

Limit servings of certain foods like leafy green vegetables, tea, coffee, etc. your urologist will give you a list.

Without knowing what type of stone you are producing, you are just shooting in the dark.

You may be able to reduce or eliminate the number of stones you have once you determine the type.

Put the lime in the coco nut and drink em full up

And the water from Coco nuts really helps for hangovers too

I'm 64 and I just got over my first one. What everyone says about pain is true it is a bitch. Mine caused a pepsis infection which landed me in an OR at 2:00 in the morning and then a day in ICU. They couldn't do anything with the stone because of all the infection so they put in a stint for a while until I was infection free. They then went back in & blasted the stone & removed that stint & replaced it with a different one with a string hanging out the end of my johnson. After living with that damn string a while they removed it but not until I got it caught in a bath towel one night while drying off after a shower. Now THAT my friends was pain.

So basically you are telling us they made it like a mine shaft with stints, and supports, so they could go in and do some sand blasting?

Damnnnnnnnnn..

I wasn't aware they could do all that good stuff and just laid in bed for days, while I bleeding blood out of my wee wee.

After about a week and a half of not going to see a doctor, the infection set in so bad I started convulsing, so I pretty much had to get crated over to the doc.

After a few days of antibiotics I was ready to drink Rhum again..

At age 28, I got my one and only K stone after moving my first ex outta her apartment, into one we had upon getting married, we moved a queen size sleep sofa, never again....

I have tons of other health issues, but K stones are thankfully not in the mix so far, I used to drink lots of beer over the decades, maybe that helped....

I had bilateral kidney stones. They put the stents in for three weeks and then pulled them out

I drink lots of water and I have been free since. Mine were uric acid based.

I've had them on six occasions, five required surgery. The last visit was a little over a year ago and they passed with very little pain.

They can disrupt kidney stones with less surgically-invasive procedures using lasers and ultrasound now, too.

Delicious the irony would be had Chris said "pissing in the dark" instead, hmmm?

Oh. I've never heard the term pissing in the dark. Soothing in the dark, yes... never pissing in the dark.

Must be a Southern thing. I've heard that expression all my life. The implication still being it's difficult to hit a target you haven't visually acquired.
