It's the only way Toyota can "preserve" the value of the car.
The fact is, it isn't worth what they are asking for it, and if allowed to open market, that will be proven. This is a tactic that can work exactly opposite too. Ferrari discovered that with the F40. |

Mike is right - this auction was absolutely incredible in the variety and quality.
Here is a view from one of my seats... ...a 78 Jeep Renegade V-8 with Levi's interior and only 3283 miles!!! Our club was asked to be "drivers" for all three days. Due to the rules all the cars had to be less than an 1/8 of a tank of gas and disconnected batteries. We did get to start them at the on deck circle and drive them up to the main stage and back to the parking areas though. Here are a few other of my seats... ... '54 Willis - took awhile to figure out the starting process on this one. The right "dimmer" switch in the passenger side floor board is the starter button! ...in tow Nash Ambassedor - starting this one was interesting as well. You pulled the automatic column mounted gear shift leaver towards you to engage the starter. ...from the back. ...'84 400i ...at first I thought the steering wheel was worth more than the car, but people were all over this one - a very rare '70s Toyota station wagon with 35k worth of stereo and lighting. All the kids pushing cars on stage came to check this one out. ...I gave serious thought to just driving this '69 280 SL out the garage door! ...Real wood accents, european leather, this should be the photo in the dictionary under transportation! Effortless to drive, smooth, quiet, but obvious torque and power. It also had that money smell that mercedes are noted for. Had three people stick there heads in the window just to sniff around. ...think this is the one Mike was bidding on. ...early '70s GTO and the new owner. and more pics here http://www.flickr.com/photos/markaraj/sets/72157627850190870/ |

I never liked the Barrett Jackson auction, but the Mecum action kicks ass. I try to watch it all the time when its on. Its a laid back type auction compared to BJ, and the variety of autos they have with great prices.

They came over here after they left the auction, and I can verify that he did love that car. He specifically talked about it.
The framed art he bought also rocks! We plugged it in and ooooed and ahhhed over it. LOL Pix from dinner after the auction...at Hard 8, of course. zed16 and nikiq IC's daughter, him and me Michelle (cheering TCU ) and me |
