So, you're starting a collection, I take it?

Are you going to get anything for self-defense, or to take to the range and shoot on a regular basis?

Good advice a lot of those war time pistols were made by slave labor being worked to death. They were rushed through and a lot of the workers designed ''surprises'' to make the guns more dangerous to the Nazis that had them.

If the gun checks out OK enjoy it.

She checks out fine, even had the gun smith fire it for me to prove it. This one was made in 1939 just after the German take over. Right now it seems the gun shop is helping me to collect WW2 pistols as there is also a German marked browning on the way and a possibly a P08 and C96 in store for next month.

I'd love to see the P08.

Since it was made in 1939 I suspect that it was probably made before the war actually started. Germany didn't invade Poland until Sept. 1, 1939. So it is a good chance this was made before the shooting actually started and then captured from surrendering Poles and marked or marked with the Waffenampt before it left the factory after the Germans took over production.

I personally wouldn't, no.

I wouldn't crucify anyone who wanted to, either.

Absolutely not, the pistol is not all that rare now, but 30 or 40 years from now it will be worth a lot more. Unrestored firearms are always worth more than a refurbished firearm, as long as it is functional do not do anything other than clean and lube it. Even cleaning with XXXX steel wool and oil "to even up the finish" or to get rust off is a mistake. Clean it with a soft cloth and oil only, don't polish it in any other way. That's my personal opinion by what I have seen in other WWII German and Japanese weapons. Unmarked, unrestored original firearms are worth much more than ones reblued or refinished.
