Use the ****ing radio and air units. You can catch these assholes without high speed pursuits.
No pursuit, lose sight of the car, lose the ability to identify the driver.

That chase through that busy highway traffic was insane.

I'm on the fence on the issue of high speed chase. Of all the policies around the country that are "for the public good", this one seems to be off the table for discussion.

I like to see them catch the thief, but at what cost? The car was stolen from a dealer who obviously has insurance. So in a way who cares? Especially since there was a good chance of property damage and even injury or fatality of the other drivers on the road.

Fact. Run them down, charge them with every law broken along the way, put them away forever.

That approach teaches the perpetrator that as long as you run there are no consequences. This encourages more of the same. Insurers impose deductibles, so the insured still has a loss. Insurers are not in the business to lose money, so rates go up for everyone who pays for insurance. I am willing to bet that most of this site would not support devices that would monitor and shut down vehicles or the police state that would be necessary to have enough cameras everywhere to always catch the perp without pursuits, so I challenge you to propose an effective, viable alternative to pursuits.

I understand and mostly agree.
But I think most would change their opinion if they were hurt or a loved one was killed as a result of a high speed chase.

But if the perp was running away without consequences because they knew the police were scared to enforce the law and someone dies, the opinions would swing the other way. Given this choice I choose teaching the thugs that actions have consequences.

It's a tough call, and that's from a libertarian who sees most things as completely black or white. I think the compromise no one is happy about that makes sense is, chase for serious crimes, murder, rape, bank robbery, car theft, etc. but end things if it starts getting dangerous for ticky tack traffic infractions, burned out tail light, speeding, window tint, etc.

I am of the opinion punishments should deter criminal behavior, not encourage it. Throw the book at anyone fleeing and endangering the lives of others. Mandatory 10 years. And if they still decide to run, then at least civilized society won't have to deal with them for another decade while they are behind bars.

Well, I'm sure the dealer cares. His deductible is likely $2,500+. His rates might go up or his policy canceled. He's probably not sold on the salesman who handed the keys to the thief either. Should have never happened.

Run them down and shoot them when you catch them. That way, you know they won't be doing it again. Claim that your body cam was made by the same people who made the cameras watching Epstein and they "malfunctioned". If Hillary can do it, surely the cops can as well.

I understand and as I posted mostly agree. But is the possible life of an innocent driver/passenger who gets caught up in it worth it?

I'm glad you feel this way. Now, where is this nice new house you're building with all the equipment and tools you won't mind being stolen because you have insurance.

I'm also glad I feel this way. I hate a thief as much as the next guy and would like to have seen the thug in the OP video shot before jumping into the water. But yes, I would gladly pay the insurance deductible for something stolen than someone injured or killed.

You are looking at each individual incident as if it happens in a vacuum rather than considering the policy that is best for society in the long run.

The C7Z is EASILY the greatest automobile ever produced in The Milky Way Galaxy.

Its timeless good looks and lines, superior fit and finish, unsurpassed pwer-to-weight ratio and epic drivetrain is what ALL OTHER car makers aspire to be.

As an owner, with the Z07 package, with man pedal, I can attest of the 50+ incidents with the local police, and state troopers, not a one was ever able to corral me to mete out a sentence.

If you want to own a car that will make all on The View drop their panties, this is the one, nothing comes close, nothing ever will, in 20 years BJ will be selling them for $30+M.

You assume that allowing criminals to escape whenever they run results in fewer innocent victims in the long run? Probably a bad assumption.
