China had a 'cultural revolution' in the 80s. It is called "Communism". All notation of chinese history was purged from the history books. Those who could, got the **** outta there. The government limited births to one per couple. This genius move is really paying dividends in China today. The more they try to tighten the grip, the more we slip through their fingers!

And although I have muni water, I’ll be drilling a well as backup. I may also use the well for landscape and agriculture irrigation around the property.
Next - chickens, then pigs, then cattle.

Seriously - I like the idea of solar to a battery backup, but my whole property Kholer generator was $15K all in, installed, taxes, tip. I would have had to spend $80K to do the same with a tesla wall an solar cells. Nope - not gonna do!

Solar sounds nice in theory but as posted the numbers don't work well but at some point I may damn the numbers and go with it.

A large generator is about 10 grand all in with transfer switch etc.
A solar field is 40 grand and that does not include battery storage equipment.
I can buy a lot of Lady Propane for 40+ grand. Assuming of course it is available.
That's a good deal for $10K. Mine was $17K, for a 24kW, a full 500 gallon tank buried in rock (hole was dug with a jackhammer on a backhoe). This was during covidiot supply chain shortages. Prices/installation may have come down some.

Out of curiosity, how many kW for the Kohler and solar/battery? $80K would be hard to justify.

I may do chickens for the eggs. Pigs nope.
I'd love to have a small herd of cattle, but...
-I'm a little old to start that adventure.
-I don't really have the land with 33 acres.
My plumber is a lifelong cattleman and he runs 50-100 head.
He and I have talked at length about it. It's not a profitable proposition on a small scale. But watching them calves born and run around is way cool.

In May 2018 I had a 13kW Cummins installed. It was $7,800 for everything. I already had a 330 gallon propane tank.

28 kW for the Kohler - does the house, garage (which has 2 heat pumps and a 1200 square foot apartment loft) and pool.

The Tesla estimate to achieve the same thing was going to be 3 Tesla Wall Batteries, and a lot of solar cells - this was 2 years ago now, so I can't remember the details on the sq footage of solar cells. And the price may have dropped as well. In theory it could sell power to the grid during the summer, generating credits that could be used in the Winter, thus making my electricity bill as low as $0 or less. However, there's still the fact that I pay about $140/mo for electricity presently, so paying off the extra cost of the solar/battery would take roughly 39 years. Not so good.

Can you demonstrate the pumping motion required for said hand pump?

I know two guys with battery walls and solar panels who are not connected to the grid. Batteries supposed to last 20-30 years. One place is about 1500 SF in CA, the other is about 4500 SF. in HI. The CA guy spent about 70k, the HI guy spend over 100k. But, totally off-grid in off-grid locations. Both guys did this in their mid 50's about 7 years ago. So the price would probably be almost twice that today. Both systems work just like land power would. No issues.
