Never go to pr, dr, haiti, cuba or mexico, the food sucks, the prices are a rip-off and they will kill you for $5.

Although a cigar merchant in cancun explained to me that cuban cigars are grown and rolled in messico,,, who would have thought that??

I've been to Jamaica twice, DR once, met some very nice folks every time, but I'm done with the Carribean.

You are sometimes safe in the resort areas, once you mix with the general population the perils are greatly increased.

Been to Jamaica a total of 4 times. (All by Cruise boat) The last time we stayed on the ship, the time before that on a drinking tour boat cruise!. Had a problem once with a obnoxious junk salesman when we came off Dune Rivers Falls. Seen and knew about a few other bad things but it did not concern us. Figured that the biggest problem about going to Jamaica, way too many Jamaicans.

Once to the DR, saw some of the craziest MC riding people ever!

Once to Hatti, many years ago. A very good example of a black run paradise!

I've been well into the general population, especially in Jamaica. Rented a car and went up into the mountains. Saw a guy walking along the road with his machete, waved and he waved back. It's a standard tool for workers there. Most make them out of scrap steel and fashion their own handle.

Went into a shanty village with my one-year-old son in tow, bought some ironwood, ganga, and talked politics with the guy.

We got to use a villa near Runaway Bay owned by a doctor that Baby Doll worked for back in the day. Came with a house woman and pool man. I had several long talks with him. He lived "out there" and was very poor. We were there during elections and he advised me not to leave the house that night. We listened to the radio for the returns. So lopsided, flipping back and forth, obvious corruption; several shootings in Kingston. I left him most of my clothes when we left.
