My chickens are a reddish-brown color and lay brown eggs. Some have speckles, but most do not.

Now, it has been my personal experience that all chickens are rather unintelligent. However, the black ones are far more retarded and aggressive than the others. Lazy too. The white chickens seem to be extremely industrious and make very good producers. The black ones just seem to do nothing but attack the white ones and generally make life in the chicken run miserable for all the other chickens.

The amount of poop you値l deal with as a chicken keeper is simply astounding. The worst part is, they have no distinction about where they値l let it all out. On your patio, your car, the yard, each other or in a forum.

chickens just don稚 care.

I did, for about a year and a half.
Started with 6, 1 got tagged by a bird of prey, 1 just flipped over and died.
They wound up in the creek. Turtles gotta eat, too.
It was nice getting fresh eggs, but turned into a pain in the ass whenever we wanted to go outta town.
So I shot the last 4 and ate them.
Just kidding.....I gave them away.

All true. ^

Generally speaking,* only animals (mostly mammals I would think) that live or raise young in a den do their excrement away from it.

Monkeys are mostly in trees and let gravity take care of it. Birds do it while flying, sitting on a branch, being on the ground, or roosting and it falls away.

Pigs, surprisingly to most, will crap in a far corner away from their food *IF* they have a large enough area to do so. Put them in a small pen and they will crap all over, just like you would if confined.

------
*Yes I know there are probably examples to the contrary, but using the prefix "Generally speaking" disregards them.

Absolutely. Raised hogs for more than 15 years and they are extremely clean animals. Always went in one corner of their area. If their house needed more bedding, all I had to do was throw them a bale of straw and they would take mouthfuls and take them into their house and place them where they wanted until it was all inside. Extremely industrious and intelligent.

My dad told me that during WWII, soldiers out in the country in Europe would look for hog huts in pastures to sleep in, because they were cleaner than anywhere else they could find.
