Ever wrap your foot around the peg hitting a stump hidden by ferns? I did that wearing tennis shoes so many times on one trail ride alone that I lost count. Hit so hard the rear came up off the ground and set over off the trail. That was with my first bike a Yamaha XT500... Talk about pain! Rode that for about 10 years.
Got a road bike after that. Yamaha 920 Virago. Not a bad bike. Owned for almost two decades and the only problem it ever had was a starter replacement. Rode that on trails too. Lucky for me my stump hitting days were done. My last bike is a 1997 Honda Valkyrie. That's 6 cylinder 1520cc. First year production. Have owned for two and half decades, still no reason to replace it. |

Vespa, Honda 160 "Dream", Yamaha "Big Bear" and a Triumph...
I rode a crapload of various bikes that were traded in at my Dad's used car lot in the 60's. Those Norfolk sailors did that many times before a long cruise. I wouldn't strap a motorcycle to my azz in nutso central Florida for love nor money. |

I posted it in a thread not long ago...
Of course 1 of the benefits of owning a shop was the access and the ability to buy some fun toys "for the business". I've ridden more than I could ever count, even if only for a few miles. I was somewhat surprised at how much I liked the CVO Harley Breakout, as I am not much of a H-D guy. overall though, my favorite has to be my Ducati 748S. It wasn't the fastest... FAR from it. On paper it really isn't anything special at all. It was uncomfortable, rode like hell, and maintenance sucked, but man, that thing had character. Marchesini carbon wheels, Arrow exhaust, that Ducati Desmo sound is glorious. It's the one I wish I had back. From a performance standpoint, it would be the Aprilia RSV4 RR. That thing was just dumbass fast. 14,000 rpm and 200+ hp on a 400lb bike. A shoutout would also have to go to another Duc, an 1198 with a great tune, Termi exhaust, etc. The problem with that bike was quite simply that it tried to kill you every time you touched the throttle. It was 212hp to the rear wheel with no traction control. No ... anything. It was an absolute monster. It was pure evil with 2 wheels. Last but not least, and I need to find a picture, would be my 01 GSX-R 750. It was stock other than the mandatory Yoshimura slip on. Not the fastest, not the best at anything, but it was my first and man, I loved that thing. |

Very good bike for around town riding. Nothing too crazy, but a nice ride on a decent size frame. Not too big, not too small, decent looks. I'd pick 1 quite often when I was heading out to a bike night. Only thing I didn't love was the brakes. Being primarily a sports bike guy, it felt like that thing took about 2 weeks to actually stop.

Commuted on this for years. Motorcycles were allowed to use the HOV lanes back in the day. Sold it when I retired. Good, reliable bike.

Currently have a 2020 BMW R nineT. It’s a fun bike but probably going up for sale. I bought it a couple years ago as a commuter and the amount of road rage these past two years have made riding very stressful.
My last bike was a 2008 GSXR 750. Also had a few dirt bikes. |

Posted a long, detail post depicting my past and present bikes and history, but the post wouldn't load and disappeared when I refreshed the page so **** it.
Currently have a 52 year old BMW and a 47 year old Honda. Been riding over 50 years. |

My first machine was just an easy runaround to beat car traffic around town C90 Cub
Then a two-stroke GT185, the baby of those amazing Suzuki two-strokes back in the day Rode it all the way from London to Heidelberg, south Germany, through driving rain, big vehicles on the autobahns. Young and bulletproof!: Then a GS400 And today, as a senior of "questionable" years, a Honda CB500X (BTW I had to put all the text and pics together, couldn't put the pics "in line" ) |
