Helluva week
Monday evening My mom was taken to the ER with BP of 244/89
That was 9:08 and she was admitted and given a room at 2:00am. They had her under observation until the next day and I went to pick her up. I arrived to a circle of nurses around her bed due to an afib event she had while I was on my way. (she does not have afib) They decided to keep her until Wednesday. Tweaked some meds and she came home. Thursday I was a bit nervous about leaving her alone all day while I was at work. I had a conversation with a friend of mine on my way in because he lives this every day since his wife had a stroke about 20 plus years ago. We talked about how every day starts so routine and we have no idea how quickly things can change. He called me back two hours later a blubbering mess because they found his wife unresponsive in the backyard. She was put on life support. No vitals, no brain activity. Brain stem bleed. Yesterday at 6:00pm, they were going to take her off support and harvest her organs. At 5:45 my mom starts having heart palpitations while we are at the hospital. Nurses check her BP and it's 207, then 209. We take the elevator down to the ER where it is 219. They run an EKG and draw blood etc. they give her a shot to drop her BP. We were in the ER until 10:30 last night. My friend's wife was in her early 60s. He is wrecked by what happened. They were the perfect couple. Did everything together. No kids. He's in his empty house after 24 years married. |

Prayers sent to all of you. Sorry about your friend and hoping the best for your mom. I lost my mom in 2021 from cancer at age 88. She lived a great life but her last month was pure hell. I had spent as much time as I could with her in the past ten years prior and boy am I glad I did. We went on trips, travelled the US, went to car museums. Spend all the time you can with loved ones while you can. Hang in there and good luck.

Tough week for sure.
My ex-wife current live-in girlfriend. (it's complicated) Was given 1-3 months this week. Took her to hospital on Friday night, riddled with cancer. They call it end of life. May God bless those with illness with peace and love. May God bless those of us left behind. |

Mom seems to be doing great. Problem is, the episodes are unpredictable.
As for my buddy, I talked to him this morning. He said it was rough. He and his wife walk every Saturday and Sunday morning and it's their bonding time. No phones, no music. Just the two of them walking and talking. He walked alone...and said he talked to her the whole way. If there is any room for humor in such a tragedy, he relayed a story he had with the organ donor person he was working with. They told him that even with zero brain activity, their passing can take as long as 30 minutes. They said sometimes the heart will stop and then randomly start again. He replied to her "No, we talked. She knows what to do". His wife would have laughed. She was the happiest person I have ever met. As she was being wheeled to the O.R. For the organ harvesting, she was draped with a "DONATE LIFE" flag signed by the floor staff. They lined both sides of the hall as she was wheeled by. He was told this morning that her organs have already saved three lives. |
