How will you communicate when cell goes down

This is just a mental exercise, right? It wouldn't be that big of a deal if the phones quit; when I moved here I didn't have a phone for the first two years cuz I didn't want one.

But the girlfriend thing became a problem, so I got one. No more GFs now. Who would I be wanting to call anyway?

I have a WH generator running off a 330 gallon propane tank if the electric went down. If I couldn't get propane deliveries I have a creek 20' off the house, water is good for flushing toilet, and I have a spring on my property for potable water, although it's a bit of a walk.

But I don't really care.

After so many years of watching this b.s. unfold, I’m close to leaving via natural causes anyway and doubt I’ll miss the place. I have a pretty good stash of supplies for living off the grid and helping others for a little while though, no phone required.

The entire cell phone system could collapse, and it would probably be 2-5 days before I even noticed. If the internet went down, I would know I didn't have service at about 9:30 am the next trading day.

Here's a question for the Geek-meisters here, and you know who you are.

I never had a cell signal here until a couple years ago (I live below the bottom of a valley) and then it's only one bar, so not reliable. So I have my iPhone set to use Wi-fi calling by default, which works great.

But I'm assuming the signal at some point goes to a cell tower. Does it leave my router, go through the Spectrum line and at some point gets directed to a cell tower? How does that work?

Op simply saying internet down means to me all sorts of networks are down not just cell towers. Satellite internet for example being down has nothing to do with cell towers. Likewise for cable/fiber internet.

Wouldn't effect me much. I have CB radios, lots of 1960's vehicles that run great, and plenty of guns and ammo. I'm good. Hell, I only got a smart phone this past July.

I have become so untrusting of the government, that I could see this as a reason to monitor all communication that is done via satellite (as if it isn't already). More NSA intrusion in the name of "security" but no further need to be hush hush about it.

the call eventually hits a cell tower for transmission if calling a cell phone. it wont hit a tower if you are calling a land line
