Thank you gents.

I have tried in vain to be friendly with this individual. But in the end I have realized he's one who needs constant patronizing and adulation.

Some "friends" just take too much effort.

You'll never convince a "know-it-all" that they don't know it all.

But it's still fun watching them prove it.

So, was there fines for the trusses being in the road? Again, probably not.
Your California buddy was wrong then and has blasted on you in this thread.

The contractor asked for my advice and I gave it to him. Why do you always get this shit wrong? Points to your shitty character.

And your "paper pusher" remark? Wrong again. I've been an avid DIYer since I was 12 years old. Dug foundations. Lifted houses. Framing. Roofing. Masonry repairs. Plumbing, heating, electrical. It's the reason why I've been so successful in my career as a engineer- all that practical experience translates to easy to follow designs that my clients covet.

You've got the worst case of paper envy that I've ever seen.

How did the contractor know to even ask you for advice?

Yup I would classify Lars as "an avid DIY-er" too.

My conclusion here: Lars is a stellar guy in character, in my own opinion. Yadkin is a stellar guy in character, in my opinion. Both are sharp-tongued and punishing. Lars knows when to stop 99% of the time before crossing the line. Yadkin has zero filter here, and crosses the line all the time. I personally find this to be charming. But then again, I like Don Rickles (the real one).

Lars considers looking out for others without them knowing it to be over-reach. Yadkin doesn't. I'm with Yadkin here. I like doing 'the right thing' when I can just because it makes me feel like a better person to help out. To each their own.
So you have two good guys here, both of whom you could trust in your home alone and with your family, both somewhat abrasive, and one who has the knack for saying the wrong thing at the wrong time...and the other with a knack for letting stuff slide that doesn't concern him. Both good guys, IMO. But hell, I'm just a worn-out old mechanic. What do I know?

Well, for one thing, I'll bet you know the firing order for a 389.

Bold is incorrect and a misrepresentation. I did not take that position. I did say I would not go on another's construction site and tell the contractor what he was doing wrong.

I bet GTO knows the mechanics of 1950-1960-1970....cars, especially GM models...like the back of his hand. He would make an excellent expert witness in court.

Vinnie Gambini could have used him in Wahzoo, Alabama.

And there you go. In my 40 YEARS in construction I’ve made an observation or two.

Those that try and impress you with their knowledge are ALWAYS the dumbest ****ers on the job. The smart/sharp ones just go about their business.

I have testified as an expert witness in court on automotive subjects since 1996. Around 35-55 times, I'd guess.

Worked on all makes and models, for the most part. The most common V8 firing order 'in the day' for GM and Chrysler was 18436572. Ford had two different ones for the V8's (Ford was always a PITA with parts compatibility and consistency). The old nailhead Buicks and straight 8's were different. I knew most firing orders for most domestics before getting out of HS due to an eccentric shop teacher. Now you can just google it. Always happy to offer automotive advice, as I have BTDT for awhile. Advice like Yadkin dumping the Porsche before it bankrupts him bit by bit. Stuff like that. Some listen, some don't. No worries.

Proper firing order often comes up in a trial?

Expert automotive testimony happens more often than you might think. Example:
