We all seem to agree that the various colors delineate different job groups...no problem. We all seem to agree that job groups might stand together for pictures....no problem. And if those specific groups that have the brightly colored uniforms ALWAYS are grouped together for pictures, prominently placed together in the center, and columns (not square blocks), then OK, that's the way it has always been. You are confirming that this is standard formation, right? It just so happens that the groups with brightly colored uniforms are always placed in the center, and in long columns.

Correct, there are bright, but different colors for the ordinance/munitions and other functions on the deck for clear identification. Let's not get triggered over just anything; there is surely enough that we don't have to go looking for more.

Oddly enough, it was very rare for us to be referred to as brown shoes (E6 and below weren't allowed to wear brown shoes anyway). Most of the time were were called Airdales. We always referred to everyone not in aviation as "shoes", short for black shoes. I don't recall anyone ever being offended by the names we called each other. Of course we can no longer have tradition, so now all E7 and above can now wear brown shoes, even if they're not aviation.

I think you're reading way too much into it. It was extremely rare for us to get into formation for pictures and when we did, it was different every time. If we were taking pictures of the just the squadron, we'd usually line up by shop which would put jerseys of the same color together. Someone taking casual pictures, we would be mixed together. We were only allowed to wear jerseys aboard the ship and underway, so most of the time our pictures were taken in either dungarees or overalls. The picture in post 5 is ship's company and I suspect they grouped them by division and they have their own rules about when they can wear jerseys.
