Apple doesn't make anything easy and the "genius" bar will have to go through Global Service Exchange to see if they can even work on your phone. GSX is apple's troubleshooting software that tells the tech exactly what to do step by step by sed on "if-then" questions. very much big pain in the ass, but requires no thinking on the part of the "genius."

If I had a choice, I would ditch my I phone and get an Android. Sadly I can't, just got the new latest and greatest I Phone. Supplied by and paid for (Including the monthly service) by the Diocese.

That sux. I imagine someone on some technical forum knows how to. Sux you have to do all this just to get stuff off the phone, restore it.
I have always stayed with droid, and all my girls Apple. I will not do it.
The only reason I would have is, video from texting is perfect apple to apple. Apple to droid , just using text, is crappy at best.

one thing you might try is to go in to your phone settings

Settings > Your AppleID > iCloud

subscribe/pay for the 200GB plan just to make sure everything on your phone is backed up to the cloud before wiping it out. This is only for one month and until you can save off what all you need.

Once purchased, perform a backup of your phone to the icloud.

You can then look at things save in your icloud here

Once that is done, then try your steps again and see if that works. You will then at least have a good backup of your phone until you get it sorted out.

I did exactly that, "thought" I backed it up to iCloud, but apparently something went wrong as I lost everything. FML.

Had it connected to my laptop to charge AND wifi but apparently it needs to be an actual plug in power source to BACK UP.
