Someone in my group posted this quote, just thought I'd share it here with you all:
“There is a cycle of love and death that shapes the lives of those who choose to travel in the company of animals. It is a cycle unlike any other. To those who have never lived through its turnings or walked its rocky path, our willingness to give our hearts with full knowledge that they will be broken seems incomprehensible. Only we know how small a price we pay for what we receive; our grief, no matter how powerful it may be, is an insufficient measure of the joy we have been given.” -Suzanne Clothier |

We lost Dusty on 3/8/21 at almost 19 years old.
His sister Maggie. We adopted them both at the same time in 2002, and they were about the same age. We lost Maggie to renal failure on 5/21/19. They did not get along at all at first, but quickly became buds. As they got older, every time Maggie went to get a drink, Dusty would go around the back of the water dish and drink at the same time. In his last few days, Dusty started drinking from the back of the dish again...it was almost like Maggie was there with him. |

Someone shared these w/me tonight...thought I'd pass them on.
We Remember Them
In the rising of the sun and in its going down, we remember them. In the blowing of the wind and in the chill of winter, we remember them. In the warmth of the sun and the peace of summer, we remember them. In the rustling of the leaves and the beauty of autumn, we remember them. In the beginning of the year and when it ends, we remember them. When we are weary and in need of strength, we remember them. When we are lost and sick at heart, we remember them. When we have joys we yearn to share, we remember them. So long as we live, they too shall live, for they are now a part of us, as we remember them. - Excerpt, by Sylvan Kamens and Rabbi Jack Riemer One Small Star When I need to feel you near me I stand in this quiet place Where the silver light of countless stars Falling on my face Though they all shine so brightly Somehow it comforts me to know That some that burn the brightest Died an eternity ago But your light still shines It's one small star to guide me And it helps me to hold back the dark Your light's still shining in my heart I'm learning how to live without you And I never thought I could And even how to smile again I never thought I would And I cherish your heart's memories Cause they bring you back to life Some caress me gently And some cut me like a knife But your light still shines It's one small star to guide me And it helps me to hold back the dark Your light's still shining in my heart Can your soul be out there some where Beyond the infinity of time I guess you've found some answers now I'll have to wait for mine When my light joins with yours one day We'll shine through time and space And one day fall on a distant age Upon some stranger's face But your light still shines It's one small star to guide me And it helps me to hold back the dark Your light's still shining in my heart Your light's still shining in my heart - By John McDermott |

I’ve been avoiding clicking on this thread. My sincerest condolences to everyone who posted about the loss of a furry family member.
Today it’s my turn. This is Mew. He is resting peacefully now after his heart gave out way sooner than the rest of his body. His soul has probably entered a human now because he was always more human than cat. He will make a good human. Miss you buddy. |

Today is the 2 year 'Angelversary' of Clara's passing, Cosmo's sister. Where does the time go? I remember meeting her as a puppy, and holding her in my arms I went through a bunch of old photos today, brought back a lot of memories.

I went today on a hike to the pet rock memorial pile on a local trail here, I was able to spot the rocks I placed for them both again.
Today my friend, whose dog I have been dog-sitting since 2/15, entered in-patient hospice care. Time is short, so I brought her to his apartment yesterday to say our goodbyes. I prayed, read him a poem, held his hand, told him we loved him. Lots of tears. It was an extremely heart-wrenching, difficult, emotionally-draining day. I brought Sadie with me for the hike...we have hiked the rest of this 18-mile trail (in pieces), but saved this part for last. Today was the right time. I formally 'introduced' her to Cosmo and Clara, and thanked them for allowing me to pay forward the love I gave to them, to her now. The grief has come full-circle. |

Looks like my brother's dog. He was lost a couple of months ago after 15 years. Good news is that they have rescued another shepherd. Please make a good life for a new dog. They are so much joy!

Today marks 3 years for Cosmo...I went for a memorial hike today in his honor, it was a beautiful day he would have loved (photo from the hike). The last few years I have tried to 'pay forward' the help I received to others currently going through pet loss in an informal volunteer capacity online at a few places...I found this candlelight prayer and thought I'd share it here: "God, Creator of all living things, we ask that as we light our candles, the healing warmth of love will flow into the brokenhearted who have lost a loved one. Give to them Your strength and comfort. We also pray that the soft glow of light will part the clouds of grief and sorrow to surround our furbabies at the Rainbow Bridge. May excitement reign supreme as wagging tails, ecstatic purrs and flapping feathers feel our gentle touch once again. May they know the gratitude we hold in our hearts for their faithfulness and gift of unconditional love as they are forever remembered. We are temporarily separated for only a short while. The gold cord that connects us through time and space can never be broken. Amen." |
