Not for me.

Having the proper race alignment is important for me.

What do you mean, "dragged?" If your solid rear axel is misaligned from the frame, it will not be, "dragging." The front wheels will be turned so that all four are rolling without any skidding. The rear tires will have no more resistance or wear than normal. And the only reason the fronts will wear oddly is because of camber change due to caster. No horsepower is lost. The only reason fuel mileage would suffer is additional aerodynamic drag. Unsafe braking is true.

Uh, no. That would only be the case if you had way too much rear brake bias. 99% of cars will understeer if trying to corner while braking hard.

I guess I should have been more clear. I was talking about the case in which one tire was misaligned with the other tires. In that case, it is being dragged. If all four are misaligned with respect to the vehicle's motion, yet are aligned with respect to each other, they will not be dragging a tire.

Thanks for pointing that out. Did you use to work in an alignment shop?

This thread is so informative. All these years I thought it was "caddy whumpus", not "catty whumpus".

The industry standard terminology is "caddy whumpus" for GM products, and "catty whumpus" for Ford products.

Okay, I gotcha and agree with you. I thought we were just talking about Julio's van with the crooked rear axel.

Never worked in an alignment shop. I worked in a small high performance shop once upon a time but my suspension and alignment knowledge is strictly amateur.

Alignment after shocks?

I'm going to put Bilstein shocks on all 4 corners of my Tacoma...the front are adjustable and I want to use the 1st setting, lifting the front about one inch.

I understand that this should require an alignment?

???

There ya go Work's been killing me - first project for a new client. I'm hoping to turn it into a couple/few yrs worth of other projects so I gotta go the extra mile on this one

Oh, and also picked up a moderate "conflict of interest" at the client that has been severly limiting my forum time at night
