My Property Tax Assessment Grievance
Just got back from sitting in front of the assessment board of 9; one woman and 8 guys.
Today between 2 & 5 is the only time all year that you can contest your assessment here. Long story short, I presented a 26 page appraisal that was done for a re-fi that I ended up not doing, one year and 9 months ago, and a listing of my house when it was for sale, but didn't sell. $277k was the listing price. One guy on the board asked me if I had any offers and I said ya, one at $245k. (A minor fib) They have my shack appraised at $308k and I said it is worth $240k The written appraisal was $250k. Where in God's name did they get $308k ??? That's insane, (synonymous with NYS). I can't wait to see what happens.... Edit : I just called my attorney and he said that appraisal is worth it's weight in gold in this situation... Uwww, glad that I kept it. |

You should have offered to sell your house to any member of that board for $300K even. Right then and there, contract in hand. Surely they wouldn't resist an instant $8K in additional equity.

We went through that last year in Illinois. Tax assessment came in at $450K
We had an appraisal done that showed $379K. We listed the house for sale and after 6 months finally accepted an offer at $349K. To make matters worse for all those folks still trapped in Hellinois, there is now a proposal out there to "solve" the multi billion dollar deficit in public union retirement funding. They want to impose an additional one percent statewide property tax. Ie if your home is assessed at $450K that would be an additional $4500 per year. Our 2017 tax bill on the that property was already almost $12000 per year. |

Is your family originally from that area? We just hosted 40 people from Washington county, NY. My reenactment group portrays the 123rd NY. We erected a monument on the battlefield here to the 123rd NY this weekend. We raised $10k from donors to pay for it over the last several years. Several of our group visited Washinton county a few yrs. back. |

Gotta LOVE sleepy little old Clay Co. Florida....funny in that the official name of the general region is Orange Park....here is the krazy part, OP CITY is getting electric service from Jax Electric Authority JEA and they pay something like 50% more than WE do in our little Clay Co. Elect. CoOp.....witch covers the rest of the county....OP city is about 2 miles by one mile in size....
and my prop taxes are about 1/2 paid by similar home in City of Jax/Duvall co..... 300 bux/year for actual TAXES 1/4 acre 1600' house...2 car garage, two storage sheds full of shit....yawn......250 added on for trash/recycle pickup..... yawn..... You know them stupid yankees in Faryland wanted to jack my prop taxes up to over 5 grand.....I GTFO just in time.....oh and that was PLUS trash pickup.... |

You should have gone to the tax assessors office and said, "Look here motherfcukers, you should be paying me to live in this state. Your taxes are too high, I can't own the guns or magazines I want, it's colder than shit in the winter, and obviously it has frozen most of your brains straight into stupidity. As soon as I retire, my ass is headed to Ga where the mountains are near, they have nice lakes, and the beaches are close. Plus, if I want to go to the gun range with a hundred round magazine and shoot until my barrel melts, no one will care. So in the meantime, stuff the money you have fleeced from me straight up your ass, because in a year or two, you will have a few less people to steal from." Of course that is my suggestion!
