Airport Taxi's (yellow ones)for the most part are good. The white taxis are notorious for scamming foreigners. They will refuse to use meter and just quote you a very high price. They'll even show you a nice laminated price sheet.....toss it out the window and yell Tang Ina Mo.

Don't meet at the airport. Get your bags and get in a Airport taxi to your hotel. The sooner you get away from that mess the better.

I've been to Manila a few times for work. It's a short trip for me. I really enjoy going there. Mostly because Manila has the closest Taco Bell to me in Quizon City. Damn I miss the Bell Beefer haha.

No real good places near the airport. Stay in Makati a much nicer area. If you want to party stay in Malate.

When it comes to the Filipina's. Be careful, there is a reason they are all interested in you. Most won't even ask for money. They are in for the long con. Enjoy your time there, don't get too serious.

It's true there's a lot of scammers out there. Then there are some that do want a way out of being desperately poor. Yet, there are still some that want to find the right person. The sorting of all those has cost some plenty financially and otherwise.

When the base was open, Clark, the amount of GIs marrying Filipinas was huge. Even some GIs arrived at the base married to an American, got a divorce, and left with a Filipina wife. Life; a funny thing happens when you go making plans.

The Philippines has taught plenty of folks a lot about people and life. Me included. I arrived there a snot nosed kid and left with plenty of lessons. Actually, I've never left. I keep going back.

With all the crap going on with Korea around there, and the Chinese stealing land.....I'd stay far away from that part of the world. They'll lie and tell you what you want to hear to get them and their families out.

if you were already over there for other reasons (military assignment, visiting a friend and playing Santa), i can understand meeting a local or two and seeing what develops. but flying 1/2 way around the globe based on an internet post?

Many an 18 YO sailor, jarhead or airman has become "adults" in PI. One lesson I learned is NO PHOTOS period. You never know who is hiding in the background.

I'm fully versed on the Philippines, as one of my best friends for over 25 years is a US born "flip" from Brooklyn, and she's an incredible person.

I'm referring to the dating site aspect of it...

It's pretty easy to explain. For those American men that don't want to play games, foreign dating sites are an easy alternative. You know you are accepted no matter what.

If anything ever happens between my wife and me, I'm going for an Eskimo woman and make a few million dollars contracting to the .Gov. The absolute best would be a disabled vet Eskimo woman.

I'd be the one building the Mexico wall.

It's been around in one form another for a while. Back in the day, the introduction was also through friends/spouse of the GI. "Kuya Johnny, please introduce me to one of your cute friends or coworkers."

The internet has just made the intros so much easier.

Also, "flip" is not a nice term and plenty take offense.

The general area of the Southern Philippines is called Mindanao, pronounced Min-dah-now. And yes, the terrorist Muslim shitheads make a lot of noise there. Just recently, a Filipino military member was beheaded. If it was me, I'd pick other places to play tourist.
