Here's my reservation about a smaller screen. How easy is it to type on the reduced size keyboard? I like my 17.3" because it has a more or less full sized keyboard.

Potentially, each laptop model has a different keyboard size, you'll have to look at each.

Generally, bigger screen, bigger keyboard, unless it has a number pad on the right etc.

Install Chrome, load up uBlock Origin and Ghostery. Check out www.nitite.com but don't go nuts.

He's right, Chrome is the bees knees. Easy to download new apps too.

Btw, what do you think about Privacy Badger? I found it in my wanderings. It's doing good as far as I can tell.

BBtw, I bought another Windows OS. I'm still absolutely pissed at Windows but there just isn't, for me, a better choice. Linux is sorta/kinda a rabbit hole. Chrome is not enough. Apple, ha, $2k to get a 15" laptop that also forces me into Apple only music...GMAFB. And the $2k is on base without taxes. Imagine if I bought it on the economy....$2.5k?

Check out the Asus Zenbook Pro 15.6 it's $1399 at Costco and has better specs than a MacBook Pro - which costs $2800. I just got one, it's a great machine.

The thing with Windows 10 is it may not be compatible with some older machines. My neighbor is an IT. Her family member installed it and failed to tell her they were having issues before it was to late to switch back to Windows 7.

I told her I downloaded the windows 10. She said if I start noticing any problems before the 30 trial is over to uninstall and go back to Win7. Which I ended up doing because it was causing slowing issues. So to be on the safe side I removed it.

So before you download windows 10, do a search to see if people with the same type of computer are having problems. I searched and could not find anything with my type - Dell Latitude E5510.

Note: I did however like Windows 10 it was an easy change over and had some good features. Hope they get the problems fixed with compatibility and reissue it.

When I went to the Dell website to check for driver updates, it had this posted

Product not tested for Windows 10 upgrade

Dell is not testing or developing Windows 10 drivers for this product. If you choose to upgrade, some features, applications, and connected devices may not work as expected.

I'm happy with Win 7 Pro so I see no reason to "upgrade" to something that may not work with my machine.

because microsoft won't publish any security updates for win7 going forward, so if a vulnerability is found, it won't be fixed.

That being said, before WIn10 installs itself, it tests your machine to see if it's compatible. I have a 6-7 year old Thinkpad T61 that I installed win10 on and it works fine. And you can always revert back to Win7 if win10 has problems.

It won't install itself. I altered upgrades to where I have to click each one. The MF'ers did the self install on my back up PC and it locked the sucker up. Full format and reload of win 7 to get it working again.

So very considerate on M$ to push the upgrade knowing it wasn't compatible on some older machines.

Believe me, I'd enjoy seeing Msft eat shit. The cocksuckers have been continually putting out shit for the majority of people. Look at this thread even, the only ones not having trouble do this as their full time job.

I got this laptop to make editing CNC programs easier on me. I want a laptop that works well and doesn't cost thousands of dollars.

M$ still has support for XP for banks and medical buts sticks it to the regular folks with forced upgrades.

300 million devices have been upgraded to Windows 10 since it was released. The stragglers who are doing it last minute are generally those with older/underpowered hardware and those who avoid change. I think it's to be expected to see more upgrade problems at this point.

My 81 year old father and 74 year old mother upgraded their laptops yesterday and today, mostly on their own and didn't have any problems.

I'm not denying there are problems, and believe me I empathize with those that are struggling, it sucks to have tech problems.

The RGB color key function of the keyboard on my Razer Blade Stealth is buggy and stops working sometimes. I have had to struggle along with keys that only stay one color for days now. I don't know how I'll survive.

I emphatically rescind my prior review of this laptop. The Asus Zenbook Pro UX501 is a complete piece of junk.

I bought the first one in May, right out of the box the power port was faulty and I spent 2 weeks diagnosing whether it was the port or the jack on the power brick or bad drivers in Win10. Asus sent another power pack, same problem.

BestBuy was a nightmare to deal with because I bought it online and the local stores refused to help me or take it back as a return. So UPS back to BB.com it went, and they shipped another one. (Bestbuy online customer support was great, the local stores support was horrible)

Fast Forward 28 days and the replacement now has unrecoverable RAM issues. ASUS wants to depot repair it (probably a 4 week turn around minimum) and BestBuy won't cross ship a replacement because that was done once already. But they will take it as a return, which I'm doing.

Asus, your product sucks, and I will go back to being a Lenovo customer - because I have a T61 in my house that is over 7 years old and running win10 like a champ and has never had a problem.

Asus, you lost a customer.

cliffs : bought a $1700 new laptop, had it replaced 2x in under 6 weeks due to a bad power port and bad RAM. Going back to Lenovo.

now I have to go return my brand spanking new Asus Zenbook Pro to Bestbuy because the power cord pops out if it twists even slightly which sets off a Win10 power warning. Tried a new power adapter, same problem, so back goes the laptop for a replacement.

i have to say that Asus' tech support was very good, as was Best Buy's (after a bit of prodding to cross ship a new laptop).

Technology, gotta love it. I still say W10 is a big pile of shit. It's dropped my printer twice and online banking is iffy with the calendar for selecting when to pay. Good job not giving a fukk Msft.

I don't like the layout of 10. It's so easy to find things on 7 but 10 makes you search till you want to throw it at a brick wall.

Thankfully our corporate IT is staying away from W10 and has blocked any auto upgrades.
