Four drawer file cabinet with locking drawers. Fill bottom drawer with concrete. I actually know someone who did this. Not a bad cheap solution.

Yea but the locking mechanism is what detracts thieves

I'd suggest a gun safe. They are plenty heavy, can be bolted to the concrete floor, and they can hold all kinds of stuff, plus they give you some protection in the case of a fire.

Maybe you should purchase one ounce ( troy ounce ) silver bars to keep too. If inflation goes wild in the event of a crash, at least silver would be something you could barter for.

like maybe a gun to keep you safe since your wife gave yours away

Does a 1500 pound gun safe bolted to the floor with a few bucks in it count as a safe!

Actually the way things are going (on many fronts) having a good supply of common ammo and magazines comes in handy. Other than the obvious uses of ammo/mags/extra guns for their shooting use if the shit really hits the fan (for whatever reason )they are valuable trading commodities.

if i thought money would become worthless some day, i'd borrow a shit load, buy stuff that would be more useful (food, ammo, water, etc), stockpile that somewhere, and watch the mayhem from a distance.

money? it's mostly in the bank or invested somewhere. only cash is what i carry around day to day.

I have a large Liberty gun safe with internal(hidden) hinges, bolted to concrete floor of basement. After getting it, I felt pretty safe until I did a walk-through in my shop. Cutting torch, chisels, metal cut off tools... you get the drift.
As those tools aren't used every day, the large ones are now stored out of the house and the smaller ones are in the safe.
