Well, we'll agree to disagree. I'm of the mindset that advocates active/aggressive defense and prefer the criminal/intruder doesn't try to come in the house. I don't want them near my family, me, our home. As far as the OP, the 0330 door bell is not normal and is cause for alarm.

No sense in waiting for protection minutes away when seconds count. Hell, you might as well invite the intruders in and give them the grand tour. No need to let yourself be a statistic.

Remember, LEO = Law Enforcement Officer. The local police are not a personal security agency.

First and foremost, my home is adequately secure with its weakest points being windows.

Trust me; the Doors in my home are the least of my concerns.

My Dog makes more noise than a busted chainsaw.

If anyone actually gets into the house, ignores the Security System, gets by the Dog, and actually makes it up stairs where I’ am … trust me, by then, the Gun will be more than ready.

Your choice. Here in TX, the law is on my side (even more during dark hours) and I have the right to shoot any intruder in my home (and on my property at night). After what I've been through over the years, I'm not ****ing around.

i just wouldnt go to the door. now if they come in the house. fire away. some of these "gun freaks" out there would have shot their own cousin on the porch.(not singleing out the OP) alot of people get their rocks off having to pull their gun. there are different ways to handle different situations. if my door was knocked on at 330 am and i looked out my bedroom window and didnt recognize the car if there was 1, i wouldnt be running to the door with my gun in hopes of an altercation. and there are alot of people that live for that $hit. you cant deny that

Can't deny it, but for me, after 10 years of being taught to actively engage a threat it's hard to get out of the habit. I'm not changing what works.

All those F’ing Gus and Texas, and you still have all that anxiety over intruders.

Why don't you come live in Illinois .... you can actively engage threats to your harts desire

Just kidding

Not hardly.

Kinda hard to pull a woody when bullets are smacking the wall beside you during a drive-by.

Trust me, It wasn't like you make it seem. I wasn't running to the door in hopes of an altercation. I was carefully approaching the door in hopes of no altercation, and that it would be somebody I knew. I have protection in case I need it, and to even hold a live weapon in a real world situation is something I wish to avoid at all costs man. Yeah it's fun to plink at the range and run through some ammo, but when you are anywhere but there and using it for protection it is a whole different ball game.

I didn't know who was on my porch - until I asked. It was then that I put my weapon away. You can be dang sure I won't go to the door without it in any situation like that. Now, the thought crossed my mind to call the police but the next thought was..well it sure will take them a long time to get here.

So, I took it upon myself to find out who it was. Had it been somebody I didn't know or somebody I didn't recognize I would have told them to leave and that I was calling the police.

The Tom Clancey reference was pure sarcasm man. I probably looked like a scared little girl in all honesty

Well, here's my story. Green's road and JFK in Houston.

Im at the light going east. Behind me is a silver mustang with 2 large school teachers in it. Light turns green, I go. After the intersection the road goes from 4 lanes to 2. The gentlemen in the mustang are honking , screaming for me to pull over and flipping me off. On the two lane the Mustang passes me on the left. While passing me they were running oncoming traffic off the road. He cuts in front of me with about 6 inches to spare. Then slams the brakes. I hit the brakes but hit the mustang anyway.
They get out and walk to my car while telling me to get out of my car. When the guy reaches for my door handle I raise my Kel-tec .32 and point it at him.

He raises his hands and says "everything is cool man." and they walk off and get into the mustang and drive off.

Something a bit fishy about this whole story.

biggrin

Now you know why I put value in where value pays for itself.

Rather than stocking up on Guns and Ammo, I invest in the following,

First, I do my researching …
Second, I purchase a home where I feel safe.
Third, I invest in solid home security, including but not limited to, secure entry points like doors.
Fourth, I invest in electronic security measures throughout the inside of the home and the exterior.
Fifth, Man’s best friend.
Last; I have Guns, but not CCW

I’m not at home 24/7, therefore I put my money where my money does me good.
