Any ideas?
I have a 1992 coupe that needs a drivers side power window motor replaced. The window is about 3/4ths of the way down. The motor is below the bottom edge of the inner door frame. Do I have to remove all of the hardware that the FSM says to remove to get to this motor. In other words. Do I have to drill out the rivets and remove the door pull and the entire metal accessory plate. It looks like aluminum and covers the entire door opening. I have no clue what I am doing. I am not even sure it's the motor. I replaced the switch to no avail but I need to be able to get to the motor to test it. Right now the window is down too far to do that. How in the world can I get the window up far enough to test the motor? Thanks for any help you can give.

Good question. I haven't had to do one on my C4 yet. But if its anything like any other 90's GM then yes, you will have to pull the aluminum cover to access the regulator and motor in a manner that you can work with it. I'd assume there are screws around the perimiter. If you are going to pull the motor and its original, you will have to drill the rivets.
The best thing Ive found with windows is take your time, and dont force parts on and off. Every door panel is different and you dont want to break any plasic snaps or fasteners. Good luck! |
Thanks for your input. I have still have a problem with that if anyone can help. The window is still down so far that even pulling all the covers off, I still wont be able to reach the motor. If anyone knows how I can access it or get the window up let me know please.

As far as moving the window I don't know. My guess is you have to move the window so you can get to the bolt that holds the glass to the regulator. Once you take that bolt out you can lift the glass out of the door. Good luck. |
I got the window regulator and motor assembly off the car but I cannot figure out how to get the motor from the regulator. There are three large rivets holding the motor to the regulator. I can drill two of them from the back with no problem but I cannot drill from the back on the third one. If I drill from the fron they have large caps. Here is what I am talking about:

I would try putting a grinding wheel on a drill and grind it off or use a center punch and drill a small pilot hole then use a larger drill bit.
