Had a set of boxing gloves as a kid and a punching bag. Basically pre-school age. Only person I fought was my dad as he was supposedly teaching me how to box. Didn't much like it, seemed like a trap.

I’m a five-eight light weight. Boxing for me would have been about as successful as basketball.

I did wrestle in HS. I made varsity almost immediately. Not because I was good because I was not. But because I was the only guy in the weight class. And I got my ass handed to me nearly every match.

My son a “little person” like us lol is a dang good bball player, tennis, also decent golfer. Played football wr until the other kids got bigger. scored a 35yd td in AZ wildcat stadium for a natl championship. He’s a lot more dedicated and athletic than I ever was. He can jump but can’t dunk.

I tried boxing.

Found I did not like being hit. Didn't seem to have much other choice.

My trainer is an MMA guy. It is interesting to see the level of talent that occurs in those people.

Pads or no pads getting kicked hard in the face, balls or shins or pretty much anywhere hurts pretty bad. you don’t just get up like in the movies unless you’re all that.

Nah, the ONLY kind of boxing I ever got into was making cabinets from kitchens to baths, to stereo speakers, and electronic gear.....

Amateur boxing (like I did) uses 16 ounce gloves. A big chunk of those 16 ounces was in the padding on the outside of the gloves. In the club, I was mostly fighting guys from my dorm, or other jokers on campus like me, and it was like we had little pillows on the outside of our gloves. So when bozos like me, hit me with those pillows, it really didn't hurt much. That was a lot of the allure, there were guys in the club that I didn't like, and it was fun to punch them in the face, even though I knew I wasn't really hurting them, just like they weren't really hurting me when they scored a hit on my face.

It also helped that my opponent was not allowed to hit me in the balls or shins. I was in good shape, and could take hits to the body with those pillows constantly for 9 minutes, and it wouldn't bother me at all.

In other words, it was nothing like a "street fight". I won a lot more than I lost in the club, but I was smart enough to know that didn't mean shit in a real fight. :yesond:

Open finger gloves, open sole footpads, shin pads, cup. Headgear. Wot dat? You didn’t look like this out there. ball shots and shin shots are accidental but happen. hurt like mf.

My little brother and I....one year apart ....didn't have the money to buy gloves so we used our socks...IRC it was three per hand, two wrapped around and one over. I remember we had some rules ...no face shots and no nut shots...but both were unavoidable lol. That lasted about a week before my dad spotted all the bruising...since I was the oldest...I got my ass kicked by him....I guess he didn't want the competition from who was doling out the beatings in the house...
