The Dude Abides
He's selling his sweet ass sweet Ford GT! Good for the Dude! Don't you love when people bid $335K on a vehicle over a week away from the conclusion of an auction???? Why??? Why not wait till the last 20 min? Blows my mind.

Could be a bunch of reasons, but not a common method.
Pretty safe bet that it will go for more than that anyway, so it matters little. Maybe that covers the reserve for this no reserve auction. Will definitely shorten the bidders list. BTW, there is a one owner 13k mile one for sale in Cali for $399k |

Think so? It sure as hell shortens the qualified bidder list. All those guys looking to get a 'deal' are gone. Some of those guys might get swept up in the bidding and bid more than they would rationally pay. If this is the case, I don't think it works in their favor. I'll watch that auction to see if this car brings the $$$. They have been going to $450K or more lately, but the tides are shifting.

Crazy as hell to think how those cars have appreciated. They were only $105K back in 04/05. I did see some 20-25K mark-ups, but still, drive it ten years and then get 3-4X your money back? Not a bad deal if you ask me.

I still remember when they came out in 2004, all were bid cars at dealership with MSRP of around $160K.
I doubt if any were bought at under $300K. I would buy one, but only in this livery: |

I was in Ontario at the time. The Ford dealers in Canada couldn't move them. There were 15 brand new in showrooms across the country, all below MSRP. $150K CDN. I wanted to buy one so badly! I got divorced instead. Awesome! Since then I built the LT5 in my ZR-1, punched it out to 415 cid. 700 N/A hp - sounds very similar to the GT when uncorked. Totally different car of course, but I just can't justify $500K on the GT now. I'd rather do a SCUD at 1/2 the money!
Kinda like people buying up old school NSXs for $100K USD. I'd rather buy a V10 first gen R8, and have 10X the car! So I did! LOL |

We were living in the Denver area then and Ford dealers were discounting them because nobody wanted them. A friend bought an '04 in '06 for $80k. If we didn't have two little kids I would have bought one.

Great buy!!
I was at the Ford Dealership buying the wifey's third Expedition, they had a red one that was roped, could not touch or sit in. When signing the paperwork I ask the GM what the current bid was, he advised over $300K, and they were still taking bids. Just checked EBay, pricing about $450K. |

I bought the cheapest V10 R8 on earth in 2020 - so no, it has the single clutch automated manual. I warmed up to it, and I got very proficient at shifting it (kinda like shifting a sport bike), but I've had enough. Every other sport car I have has the stick shift, SO............taking it down to these guys in June, and getting her converted to the gated stick shift! LOVE IT!!!!

I have a car friend in his mid 80's. He had a buddy the same age. About ten years ago, when they were mid 70's, the buddy showed up to my friend's place in a red GT40. I checked out the car, being very respectful. The GT owner didn't know I was a car guy and snapped at me to 'watch the paint' as I approached the car. We looked it over, very nice, and he sped off shortly after. About 6 months later, I asked my friend about the guy with the GT40, hoping for a test drive or ride. "Oh, he totaled that car" was the answer. "It got away from him and he put it into a tree."
And that was that. I've seen the real GT40's race a lot of times at Laguna Seca, and they are considerably smaller than the second gen cars. Still, what a classic car in every way imaginable. |

Car auction seem to be money laundering to me. No way are some of these cars worth the coin. Yeah, I know, they are worth what someone is willing to buy
I saw an auction for the Lamborghini from Wolf Of Wall Street. That was a real Countach.. I think it went for 1.8 million, prior to an F1 race in the Middle East. As is. Destroyed. But you go two DVDs and a chair too.. |
