Under New Management

There's a pub nearby that we go for on-tap local brews and corny entertainment. A while back Baby Doll and I were there with our daughter and SIL, and on the way out we decided to got to "The ____ Restaurant", literally a stones-throw from the pub. It has a 4.5 star review on The Google. Friends of mine had said earlier that it was good.

It had recently been purchased, so under new management.

The place was about half full, still early on a Friday night. Plenty of staff in the kitchen (it looked like to me anyway). The new owner greeted us and led us to a nice table.

I recognized our waitress from another place that I frequent, only open during the winter. We exchanged greetings. Service was very slow- apparently she was the only waitress.

All four of our meals were terrible. I ordered baked ziti, and it was served in one of those black plastic things, the same thing that it was microwaved in. It literally tasted like a frozen Chef Boyardee.

Like WTF, did the new owner fire the old chef?

I left a generous tip for our hard-working waitress, and no review.

We used to eat out almost daily. After covid the restaurant business seems to have gone to chit. And we have all but quit eating at these chitholes.

When a TGI Fridays and a Chili's, both a couple blocks from the beach, go out of business in a tourist town something is changing.
And both of those restaurants were packed daily from lunch to close.

Down on the beach it used to be all mom & pop places. That was until Destin was put on the map and every chain restaurant invaded the place.

We used to love the TGIF. It was like Cheers, everyone know each other and the server knew everyone and literally would have our drinks on the table as we walked in. He is a great dude and this guy can take 10 orders to memory and get everyone perfect.
Lunchtime on the bar side was packed with Realtors and Contractors and other biz people. Great networking and good fun.

Now we are up in the country and the chain joints are miles away, another reason to no go into town.

Should have hit up a construction site, picked up some old roofing material, and dumped it all over the parking lot of the restaurant.

Yep.
Normal people are a minority on the coast nowadays.
We are now a minority in the country because there’s more cows than people.

Cows are way better neighbors than the Feral Ones. WAAAAAY better.

Black cows (Angus) are the most popular but here and there you see a herd of Herefords, Holsteins, or Dextors.

There’s one farm near me that has longhorns. Not sure of the breed, they are medium brown in color.
