Default What is your favorite song of all time?

I was watching the Garth Live in Vegas show tonight on CBS and he mentioned his favorite song of all time. It happens to be my favorite song of all time too because it was my mothers favorite song of all time. My mom would sing along to this song every time it played. Ever since she passed in 08 this song always brings a tear to my eye.

What is your favorite song of all time? If there is a story that goes along with it, please share.

It would be hard for me to narrow it down to just one song. "American Pie" is in the top 3. Along with "Blinded by the Light" and "Hotel California".

Impossible task for me.

Stairway to Heaven would be close. Sometimes when I hear it, I'm the same mesmerized 15 year old kid I was the first time I heard it. Other times, "Turn this shit off. Most overplayed song in history."

So, probably Stairway.

Or not.

Probably not.

For me it's impossible to have just one favorite because the mood has to fit the song. Sometimes listening to something like Master of Puppets is amazing, like when I'm on a week-long coke-fueled binge. Other times, Somewhere Over the Rainbow just rocks, like after I've performed live cabaret in a San Francisco theater. Then Aerosmith's Don't Want to Miss a Thing is perfect when I'm saying goodbye to Liv Tyler before I ride a space shuttle to an asteroid.

Nice.

Except the Liv Tyler part. She looks too much like her dad. I'd be ready to mount up and "Suck on my big 10"" would run through my head. Game, set, match.

I know, corny, but the Star Spangled Banner. That IS the only piece of music, when performed properly, that will stir emotions to the point of tears for me. No other body of music will do that for me.

Other than our national anthem, for a favorite song, just too many....., the Stones' "Sympathy For The Devil", I could listen to Booker T's "Green Onions" all day, Santana's "Black Magic Woman", Gershwin's "Rhapsody In Blue", and on and on.......

Don't have one, but certain songs freeze me in place until they are over:

Jimi- Little Wing
Stones- Moonlight Mile
Neil Young- Needle and the Damage Done
Allmans- Blue Sky
Tony Carey- Fine Fine Day
Mountain- Theme to an Imaginary Western
Procol Harum- Whiter Shade of Pale

Thomas and Snake... The harmonics at the beginning are cake to do once you figure them out...
I think that this song takes me to another place and means more to me than any other song I know, so I guess this is my favorite.
Crank it.

Rush - Red Barchetta (Live (1980/Canada)) - YouTube
OK, admission time. That one of the very few Rush songs I like. The guitar tone while;

"Wind-
In my hair-
Shifting and drifting-
Mechanical music-
Adrenalin surge..."

is happening is goose bump shit. Clean, yet dirty.
