Just had an offer
My producer called me today about the album I’m struggling to write. I’ve never written any original songs and oddly when I try, it comes out Americana or classic country. Which I don’t play.
He said he thinks we should co-write a contemporary jump blues album instead. That’s what I play but I can’t even think of lyrics for the style. Odd. Topics are traditionally booze and/or women. We would be able to pull in players from New York plus Austin and run a big horn section. (All overdubs). He is a very good songwriter. Like world class. Think: Roomful of Blues, Count Basie, Luis Jordan, early Ray Charles. I don’t even care if nobody hears it. Should be a blast. We have ridiculous players. |

Given the topics of your genre, I guess you already covered every possible situation of wandering into a bar , laundry mat , grocery store... & seeing a voluptuous- sexy dressed woman & pouring on the charm , convincing her to go get intimate with you ? I could write you 6 unique songs of that from my own experiences..... for $1000. each ? |

My first cousin is a very successful Nashville country songwriter. Has a couple of well known songs (Ryan Beaver). Most singers don’t write their own songs. They put their stamp on them tho. Play the songwriters tune as you’d play it-not how they want you to play.

how about a metaphor about petting a kitty? Cars, booze, hangovers, money, chicks, partying, dying young, fancy shoes/suits, that’s all there is. |

Also true. But that’s even harder. Everything has been done. Most of the work would be the horn section I suppose. This isn’t jump but dig it! This is on the set list Dec 9 One thing I am certain of. It must swing HARD. (So to speak) Hey! Writing about one’s own penis seems catchy. |

My dog died on Monday, ran him over in the yard.
My wife left me on Tuesday, she took my credit card. Boss fired me on Wednesday, why does life have to be so hard? The car "disappeared" on Thursday it's in the impound yard. But it's Friday night, and it will be alright There's a Honky Tonk in the cards.... |

L need to get more archaic lingo in there. It’s Friday night, ima beat my feet There’s a honky tonk right up the street Dig this - Wynonie Harris - 1951 Listen to the Hammond Organ. That’s Red Young 27 years with Nelson Riddle Orchestra (and a slew of others starting with Sonny and Cher in the fifties, Joan Armatrading, Linda Ronstadt, BB King). Dude is a bad ass mutha. This is the first and only time we did this tune. It is jump perfection. |

It was an evolution of the big bands of the 30’s and early 40’s. Economic conditions forced these huge bands to become smaller, making drums more prominent, adding electric guitar as both a rhythm and solo instrument and shrinking horn sections to just three or four horns. This changed the sound. It was still swing but punchier, more danceable. It was also a primarily black music that crossed over to white audiences before Rockabilly, Carl Perkins, Elvis. It had no country elements like rockabilly but retained a simplified jazz sound. Progressions got simpler - it was the common man’s dance music starting in the mid fourties’ and extending into the mid fifties. Because of its black roots, many people were offended by the ribald lyrics and “jungle beats” as they called them. But younger people didn’t give a shit so it became mainstream. |

Why can't you team up? FFS, Bernie wrote most of Elton's songs. We here are not likely Moondoggie talented with lyrics. YMMV.

I'll buy it when it comes out. I have pretty much everything that Roomful or Duke Robillard ever did - and that's a lot of CDs. |

Take your shot, if some songwriter can make a hit from "Muskrat Love" the song will be a standout.
When talking rockabilly then Stray Catz front man then Brian Setzer is the man - I don't think he gets nearly enough credit as a musician..... How BB King gets so much mileage out of the small "blues Box" on the fretboard is phenomenal.. |

Since my forum banned me,
I found a new place to dwell, Down at the end of a lonely street, the Vette Barn hotel Easy instant classic....can provide more stanzas and even a chorus if necessary. I do want credit on the album, though, and maybe royalties as well. |
