Thoughts on Potential C6 Project Please ...
Check the new ride ... Almost ... pending an inspection.
Found this in Illinois a few days ago. Thought it was going to someone else, but the guy called me back last night to see if I was still interested. Its not a 'salvage' vehicle either, owner has a clean title in hand and I've checked it through CarFax. I'm trying to check it through my insurance company since I dont any police officers to run it for me. Here's the link, too many pics to post ... I'm sure I havent asked all the questions, I'd appreciate ANY feedback or thoughts on the repair. http://s1097.photobucket.com/albums/...Project%20Pics Here's what I've been told: Frame box is square and true with no damage to the frame rail on either side Vehicle runs and drives great Clean Title in hand Only the pass seat side airbag deployed Parts included are: Rear tub w/ qtrs, hatch, rr bumper, pass door, rockers. both frt fenders, fr bumper, pass mirror, inner fenders. Need: front bumper foam, headlight lenses, seat upholstery, and probably a bunch of nickle dime parts that end costing an arm and a leg...just like every project I've ever worked on. Drivin up to Indy for the Brickyard Race this weekend, then over to look at the car on Mon. We'll do the deal if it looks good, so ANYTHING you guys can point out would be much appreciated and probably worth a beer if we ever meet! Out ... |

How did that VETTE get to look like the pictures show? That looks like a lot of hard damage.
My best read on what the pictures show is to PASS! If you do decide to get it let a GOOD independent body man look that car over CLOSE. That to include putting on a lift. Lots of other Vettes out there look around! |

Putting a Vette together isn't that difficult. My biggest concern like u said would be the frame an if u can splice in a new section by the door.

Thanks Mike, sure doesnt look too hard to me. After taking with the guy, seems like a pretty straight forward repair. Found a copy of the GM Collision Manual for the car that details the repair/replacement of the outer lock piller, rocker panels, and frame sections, but nothing about the inner lock pillar. So if there's damage it may require a little more effort. Big thing is ensuring the frame is square and true. I dont want to mess around with a frame shop. Thats a never ending job, like chasing a dent on a roof ...

Oh, and Bill, if you happen to come across one that the owner needs a bigger car due to family stuff, please let me know! I'm hoping to trade out my Mustang GT convertible 5-speed for a late C5, early C6, convertible and stick also. Trade plus cash of course! Color not important, but I LOVE that dark blue like Wendy has (actually all the Corvette blues are purty!), or the Cyber Gray too! REALLY prefer to not have a black interior also being in AZ! Paul |

I haven't been looking that hard, this one just looked like a good, relatively quick project for pretty cheap ... I'll keep my eyes open for ya ... Look fwd to meeting when you make it to Fort Worth, first round's on me! Last edited by Kuelblaz; 08-04-2011 at 5:11am. |
