The car was based on remaining Chevrolet Corvette C5 asemblies due to GM's transition to the C6. Cadillac introduced the XLR at the 2003 Detroit Motor Show and began production in the 2004 model year.

GM being less than truthful? Shocking I say, just shocking. From the same folks that make flimsy ass, disposable cars and try to hawk them as decent. Full disclosure, GM has plenty of company including other car manufacturers. CoughDogdeCough (As an example)

I spent the last week with a guy that recently retired from GM Management. His description was spot-on:
-- Direct Expense: GM was nearly criminal in its pursuit of lowered Direct Expense. They would prefer to put a supplier out of business than accept a two-cent-per-car increase.

-- Indirect Expense: GM was nearly criminal in its neglect to manage, or even care about Indirect Expense. Management perks (finally killed by Perot), labor benefits, facilities upgrades, etc.,, etc., etc.

Maybe I'm foolish, behind the times, or whatever but I've always thought making a good product for consumers gets much more business. Sure, anyone can chase the bottom line and sell today. Currently I look at GM, and others, as just a bunch of fukks that want a sale today and dgaf about tomorrow. Tomorrow they will tweak the bottom line to continue selling by cost alone.
