My BIL was a career submarine officer. Retired as a full Commander. He had the one on one interview with Rickover. The stories are not exaggerated

I never heard of him until this thread. His wiki story seems like he was simply a driven perfectionist and some of his concerns would do us well in today's woke military.

BIL sat in the infamous wobbly chair in Rickovers office for his interview. He was told to open the window and go stand on the ledge. I forget which floor of the Pentagon this was on but BIL hesitated. He was told that was a direct order and he still deferred but didn’t say anything. Rickover finally said that the last dumb son of a bitch that went out the window was definitely not serving in his Navy
