Default Yay! My doggie came through surgery just fine.

She had some serious dental problems. Had to have a few teeth pulled. The vet called and said we could pick her up in a few hours.

She's such a tiny little thing (4.5lbs) that I always worry about her. First time she's had anesthesia. She'll really get spoiled rotten for the next week or so.

And let me mention it's a good idea to do preventative dental care. This little episode is costing us about $600.

Her problems were partly the result of being runt of the litter. She didn't shed her baby teeth well.

Just as an observation for all of the dog lovers, they do sell doggie toothpaste. I wish we used this on our Chocolate Lab over the years, but we didn't know about it, and his teeth are now horrible as he nears 15, and his gums and teeth give him a ton of grief.

On the other hand, I've been brushing the teeth of our rescue for the past 3-4 years (she'll be 10 this year) and her teeth continue to be bright white, and her breath is always wonderful. We suspect that regular dental care for a dog can greatly enhance their lives in the later years.

This is the brand we use: clicky

Levi chews on elk antler which keeps his teeth clean.

www.michiganantlerart.com is where we get XL Jumbo w/ crown for our Swissie

( we tried a couple beef bones but Levi's jaw strength just shattered them. Even the ends )

We have done dental chews daily for both of them for their entire lives, and it didn't help Bailey. I've brushed Cricket's teeth daily, toothpaste tastes like chicken, and she looks forward to it. I believe dental chews have their use, but I will have to take a picture of her teeth soon...it's worth 1,000 words. I will brush the teeth daily of every dog I ever own in the future.

We did brush her teeth (not often enough) but some of her problems had nothing to do with that. She's only six years old, and we were just too reluctant to have a lot of them pulled.

She's home now, seems to be doing okay. I fed her some canned potted meat, which is mushy and she ate that. She has antibiotics to take for a few days, and we are giving he a little baby ibuprofen for any pain she may have. Her teeth were such that she probably has had some pain for awhile, so she may actually be feeling better than she did.

They pulled nine teeth, one molar and all the little front teeth, upper and lower. All of her canines are still there. The remaining teeth, of course, are all polished and white now.

We get our two boys teeth cleaned every year. Its really something that should be done. Dental chews are not a substitute and even if the dogs teeth look good, gt it done.
