Global Warming hits Australia ?
78 missing as 'instant tsunami' hits Australia town.
Intense deluge sparks 26-foot high wall of water; torrent heads toward Brisbane 78 missing as 'instant tsunami' hits Aussie town - Weather - msnbc.com BRISBANE, Australia — Greg Kowald was driving through the center of Toowoomba when a terrifying, tsunami-like wall of water roared through the streets of the northeast Australian city. Office windows exploded, cars careened into trees and bobbed in the churning brown water like corks. The deluge washed away bridges and sidewalks; people desperately clung to power poles to survive. Before it was over, the flash flood left at least 10 dead and 78 missing. "The water was literally leaping, six or 10 feet into the air, through creeks and over bridges and into parks," Kowald, a 53-year-old musician, told The Associated Press on Tuesday. "There was nowhere to escape, even if there had been warnings. There was just a sea of water about a kilometer (half a mile) wide." The violent surge in Toowoomba brought the overall death toll from weeks of flooding in Queensland state to 20, a sudden acceleration in a crisis that had been unfolding gradually with swollen rivers overflowing their banks and inundating towns while moving toward the ocean. Queensland Premier Anna Bligh said there were "grave fears" for at least 18 of those missing. The high waters headed next to Australia's third-largest city, Brisbane, where up to 9,000 homes were expected to be swamped. The Brisbane River overflowed its banks Tuesday and officials warned that dozens of low-lying neighborhoods and parts of downtown could be inundated in coming days. But nothing downstream was expected to be as fierce as the flash flood that struck Toowoomba on Monday. It was sparked by a freak storm — up to 6 inches (150 millimeters) fell in half an hour. "There was water coming down everywhere in biblical proportions," Toowoomba council member Joe Ramia told the AP. "These are shocking and heartbreaking circumstances involving young families and young children in a very rapidly unfolding situation," Queensland state premier Anna Bligh said. "Mother Nature has unleashed something shocking on the Toowoomba region," Bligh said earlier. "This is without a doubt our darkest hour of the last fortnight." (Read continues in Link) Video inside |

Prove it was caused by man burning what EVER....
FACT is....flat/lo lands flood, see it all the time in the Mississippi regions/plains..... and at the bottom of my hill here in Florida....I"m 1/2 way down the hill side..... 30' off the flood/water level in the creek..... gotta use common sense in where you live.... I ran around for 4 daze all over this town when looking almost 14 years ago.....finally found this joint, only thing I screwed up on was not cutting more of these stupid trees when I moved in....should have leveled them ALL....cut down the retaining wall, and regraded the land in front.... oh well, I live with the filth.... there is nothing so filthy as a tree...... |

let's see, this isn't as bad as the floods in 1971 or 1974 according to people who went thru those floods. In addition, that region has experienced flooding events like this at least 4 times in the past 40 years. (and most definitely has experienced flooding events like this in the past 20,000 years). So no, this has nothing to do with MMGW no matter how much some people say it does. you're welcome.

The global warming belivers also say there is a fresh water shortage. Where did all this fresh water to flood an area the size of TX and NM come from???

You do know that individuals, who speak intelligently about the subject, know it’s called Global Climate Change.
Welcome to the Year 2011; we've been waiting for you. BTW; they also discovered that the Earth is not Flat, pass the word. |

But I think it’s hilarious when people try to make a joke out of something and can’t see the ignorance in their own message. Carry On |

2010 ties 2005 as warmest year on record worldwide
The Associated Press: 2010 ties 2005 as warmest year on record worldwide
WASHINGTON (AP) — It's a tie: Last year equaled 2005 as the warmest year on record, government climate experts reported Wednesday. The average worldwide temperature was 1.12 degrees Fahrenheit (0.62 degree Celsius) above normal last year. That's the same as six years ago, the National Climatic Data Center announced. Climate experts have become increasingly concerned about rising global temperatures over the last century. Most atmospheric scientists attribute the change to gases released into the air by industrial processes and gasoline-burning engines. In addition, the Global Historical Climatology Network said Wednesday that last year was the wettest on record. Rain and snowfall patterns varied greatly around the world. "The warmth this year reinforces the notion that we are seeing climate change," said David Easterling, chief of scientific services at the climatic data center. Nine of the 10 warmest years on record have occurred since 2000, he noted. The exception was 1998, which is the third warmest year on record going back to 1880. Easterling said the data "unequivocally" disproves claims that climate warming ended in 2005. The temperature readings are collected at land stations and from ships and buoys at sea. The "normal" reading they use is the average worldwide temperature for the 20th century, which was 57.0 degrees Fahrenheit. Temperatures over land surfaces were the warmest on record last year, averaging 1.80 degrees Fahrenheit above normal, while ocean temperatures were the third warmest on record at 0.88 degrees above average. A La Nina condition took effect at the last half of the year, marked by below normal temperatures in the tropical Pacific Ocean. While it was the wettest year on record, Easterling declined to link warmer temperatures with the unusual moisture, commenting that much more research would be needed in that area. Other findings in the annual climate report included: — There were just seven named storms and three hurricanes in the Pacific, the fewest since the mid-1960s. On the other hand the Atlantic hurricane season was very active with 19 named storms and 12 hurricanes. — Arctic sea ice cover was the third smallest since records began in 1979, trailing only 2007 and 2008. The ice cover is considered a marker of climate change as global warming tends to be seen first at the poles. — Despite the overall warmth, 2010 saw record cold and snow in January and February in the Northern Hemisphere, particularly eastern North America. — From mid-June to mid-August an unusually strong jet stream shifted northward, bringing an unprecedented two-month heat wave to Russia and adding to devastating floods in Pakistan. — For the contiguous United States it was the 14th consecutive year with above average temperatures. Resent History 4 yea |
