Default Sciatic Nerve Again

Last 3 months have been HELL.

I got another epidural Steroid on March 1st, a few days of improvement, but it came back FIERCE. I couldn't walk, stand or drive. Been off since last Thursday.

Pain Management doctor fit me in Thursday night and basically couldn't do anything but give me Narco and Flexaril. So, with the meds, I was in couch mode until Saturday when things finally started to get slightly better. Lots of Ice and Heat, stretching, and attempting to walk, I was back on my feet by Sunday, but could only walk in short bursts.

Had another Epidural Steroid this afternoon...this time they went in from a different angle. I feel wonderful right now. I hope it lasts this time.

I am pushing 43 years old, and this really has been a wakeup call. I've had the steroid shots before, and dealt with bad sciatic and back problems for the better part of 15 years. I am overweight, don't exercise enough, and generally eat pretty poorly. This has to change.

I am determined to make a lifestyle change, I have to for my own good, for my job and my wife and family.

Say a little prayer I guess.

It's not as difficult to change as it seems.

Best of luck. I had sciatica once and it was really bad. It lasted several years. At it's worse, I could not walk when I awoke. Had to crawl to living room.Doctor put me on 3 800 mg ibuprofen a day. That really helped me.

I know this is hard to believe but I took a long road trip in a car (Supra) with good seats. About a two week trip. When I got home, I had no further pain. Sometimes it would flare up but I could control it with Ibuprofen. Never really had a problem since.

I did have to have a laminectomy a few years back and that cured another type of back pain.

Best of luck to you and I hope you find that relief.

I have had sciatica on and off for decades. Mine is due to muscle spasm in my buttock that pinches the nerves in my left leg. Chiropractic was a big help.

Depending on what your root cause problem is it may help. Have you tried it?

Prior to my laminectomy, there was significant pain in the small of my back. No pain down the legs. feet would go numb.

I certainly have a LOT of sympathy and empathy with yawl suffering the lo back pains.....I have a extra vert in my lo back....they call it spondalitis L6 only supposed to have 5 verts down lo.....and too boot with 74 years now, the cartilage has gone between two of them so the bones are growing together....

and so the Navy and AF declined my enlistment, the Army drafted me in '66 and tossed me out after one month and one day of basic .....I basically have to function my own way.....these daze I walk bent over forward, others seem to notice it, but it is what it is......I"m 6'5" and 225 for decades now....I wear my belts tight, britches where they need be, large leather belts and large belt buckles...Tejas style.....I find that the extra 2-4? inches in my spine makes wiping my ass a PIA lately....stupid crap.....

and YES to Ibuprofen I take 5 200 mg tabe every AM.....sometimes another 1000 mg in the PM......I do manage to run around behind the lawnmower but it's only 1/4 acre....

the pains shift around a bit these daze....rib cage spine is getting stiff and painful.....but I have arthritis all over, hands, feet, and now my knees are starting to act up....just got up an hours ago and hit the can and when washing my hands, I notices extra goopy feeling....it was the residue from Aspercream that I rub into the hands when my fingers hurt ....wife sprays my back with Blue Emu spray....it helps too.....

Next time round I going to grab the blueprints and spec in a high industrial grade stainless skeleton.......none of this rusty damn iron any more.....

Within the last few months, I've been having Sciatic problems too. Started off riding for more than an hour, and the burning/pain started around my belt line, through my hip, and down the back of my leg. Last Thursday, I went to bed around 9 p.m. and woke up in what I would categorize as agonizing pain. I got out of bed, and shuffled off to the can like a cripple. It was several hours before the pain started to wane. I ended up at Dr.'s Friday morning, and had Xrays yesterday to try and find out the underlying cause. I feel your pain man...literally. I had no clue as to what kind of agony that put people through. Hope you get some relief!

Yes, I have tried everything from Chiropractors, Physical Therapy, Acupuncture, Holistic Herbs, EVERYTHING.

The last two Chiropractors screwed me up even WORSE. I am fortunate to have found a really good one just recently. He is WONDERFUL and has been a big help. Very gentle and without a doubt has made this tolerable.

I am feeling pretty damn good today. Knock on wood.
