Default Finally getting my next work assignment.

Looks like I'm destined to always be put on the difficult projects. I get an easy 30 hours next week in Atlanta, and GWiz is on Spring Break then, so I'm driving a rental car up Saturday morning and will get to spend Sat-Mon with her, spend 30 hours on a client site Tue-Thu and then drive home. After that, I'm on a critical project that was supposed to go live last JULY. I'll be on this project until the end of THIS July.

I do have to admit, I love being in demand. If this keeps up, I'll win a trip every year. Took 17 days off in February, and a 1 week idle period due to client ineptitude, and still the top producer in the entire company YTD...1000+ people.

Interesting tidbit, this client was originally a client of Deloitte, and they delivered a crappy solution. They do nearly 40 billion in revenue a year and are a direct competitor of ours. Our team even dropped the ball, hence the delivery date of LAST July. Now I get to make things right, and I will.

Coming from a dinky town in Florida, I never realized that I could make such an impact in the Fortune 500 arena.

I've worked with Deloitte before. Hard to believe they're still in business.

Doesn't matter how big you are, it all comes down to individual people who step up. I chuckle when I listen to my manager bitch about millenials, and even funnier, a guy who's in between his (he's older) and my age, and is steadfast that 40 hours is all he has to work. Hate to say it peeps, if you want to play in the big pond, you have to pay your dues. 40/week ain't gonna give you a monster paycheck...nor a ribbon.

I concur. Do whatever it takes to get the job done. With your manager's attitude, is it any wonder the timeline wasn't met?

My manager is awesome, and worked side-by-side with me on the last gig. He's only been with the company since the end of last year. His boss is my old manager, and he's the one that's been communicating with me about this project. A quote from him: "No messing around on this project man, we sold you real hard." I read this as a huge compliment. My employer knows I can get the job done, and they used my history and ability to close the project change order to reboot the project, and deliver by this July. My new project manager couldn't believe I worked 74 hours last week. 74? Seriously? That was a vacation.

Manager does whatever it takes. Works his ass off. This was a comment about one of his other direct reports.

Two scenarios that would be funny for different reasons:

1. Hey, Datawiz, your new assignment should be real easy. Shouldn't need more than two monitors to handle it.
2. Hey, Datawiz, your next assignment is pretty complex. You got room for four more monitors?

3. Hey, Datawiz, we are designing a new application with significant accessibility functionality and we need you to represent our vision-impaired user base and not use a monitor.

For this company I am a data architect. I move and transform data from legacy systems into Salesforce. I've been a programmer and data guy for 30 years, so I hit the ground running. Salesforce is the 800 pound gorilla in the CRM business. This stock chart says it all.

You don't have to be just a data guy to be in the salesforce ecosystem. There are tons of roles, project manager, engagement manager, technical architect, solution architect, ... and many lesser roles. The education is free for the taking for those who want to dip their toes in. (link in my other post) It's a very cool, and flexible platform.
