they say "you can lead an idiot to knowledge"
"But you cannot make him think"...and I saw firsthand this evening, that this is absolutely true...
My very own 19 year old cousin, fell asleep at the wheel of his 99 Chevy pickup last week, and went down an embankment and tried his best to push over a pine tree, at about 40mph. He was not bucked up...and had an unsecured 4wheeler in the bed. The 4 wheeler ended up well away from the scene of the crash, the truck was a total loss...and he somehow, walked away. His face is smashed, because he kissed the wheel for an instant before the bags deployed. Broke off a few teeth, and broke the top of his lower jaw bone off, caved it int ohis mouth....He also has some knee damage because his knees slid forward into the kick panels... I asked him tonight, why he wasnt buckled up. His words "Well, seat belts kill people, you need to be able to move around inside the vehicle...its just a bad idea to be tied into one spot" "I dont buckle up at all, ever..and I never will, look how I got off almost scot free on this one"..... HO LEE SHIT....I wanted to slap him across the mouth...OMG..how can people be so dense? I asked him...what if he had been in his much older truck, with no air bags..his reply "Well, stuff happens, but im sure id have been fine".... He used the incident where the guy wrecked that black C4 vette, running from the cops at like 120mph, was thrown free of the wreck..and walked away... I told him, he is the reason that Fireman carry shovels on their trucks... |

Most teenagers are brain-dead at 19 anyway.
He might change his mind after a few months of eating applesauce. |

I have only had 2 crashes at speed. 60 or so. Both times I was glad to be strapped in. See pic.

if he keeps this up, he won't have to do any planning for retirement, much less work on picking a good career path.
