Apparently, Millenials Aren't The Only Ones That Don't Think Ahead...
Nearly 50 years old, and he had a whopping $6,000 put away in savings..
https://www.cnbc.com/2020/09/01/near...-pandemic.html His “profession” is listed as a “freelance blogger.” Do these people seriously think that what they have to say is so interesting that they can actually make a living posting about it? Sadly, this is extremely commonplace in today’s society. Maybe this is why everyone wants the government to take care of them. He goes on to say that “I don’t think anybody plans for a six-month emergency.” Clearly this paragon didn’t bother to look into this further or he would have known that nearly every financial and investing institution on the planet encourages putting away 6 months of living expenses at minimum. I wonder if he's picked out a favorite cat food yet. Just...unbelievable. |

I'm not at liberty to say, but GWiz, at 22, has a massive head start going into life, and this is not from her parents (well a small amount is), it's from her 4 years of internships, side jobs, and frugality.

Dude, she had a full time professional internship this summer (her 4th, and she still worked 20-30 hours a week at two other opportunities that also paid well).
Funny though, she'll finish her tenure at GT with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and a 3.75 GPA, but she's going to be a software developer / Solutions Architect in my ecosystem. Hell, she's full time this semester (well 11 hours) and she's still working all 3 summer jobs. |

not me until he starts hitting me up for a handout, or more likely, he starts hitting .gov up for a handout, either way, that's my money he's taking because he's poor at planning more than 6 hours ahead at a time.

My dad made me save half my pay check. When I was 17 I bought my first new car a 69 Z/28. The only thing I got from my parents was their signature for the loan. They said if I got in any trouble with the car or if my grades suffered they would take the car from. My dad told not to wast money on a apartment. Stay her until I could buy a house. At 21 I bought my first house for $13000. Now that I am retired with my social security and investments me and my wife can enjoy retirement with no problems

My daughter wanted to be a teacher when she started college. I strongly advised her against it. I told her she'd be overworked, underpaid and have to deal with narcissistic jack wagons for parents and recommended business school (if a dumbass like me can do it, anyone can). Now...A FEW YEARS LATER...she's figured out that her dad MAY have had a point, so we're planning an exit strategy. Fortunately she's young enough to punch out without too much grief. At 50, you can't really do that. I'm glad she has the foresight to see that. Quote:

I didn’t have any savings until well into my thirties. My money went back into my company. I think it’s easy for people who chose the route of a steady paycheck to look at others and judge them instead of being grateful for what you have.
Some of us took risks. Some of us were wiped out by medical bills. I lost everything I owned from an insurance company canceling my wife’s policy after having cancer. We have never recovered from it financially. During that time, I learned to be humble. We went from earning $600k a year (and supporting 23 jobs) to eating at a food pantry. We lost our house, our assets were frozen. All out of our control. When I arrived in Texas in 2006, we slept on the floor because we didn’t own a bed. Then, that same year I was diagnosed with an incurable illness that needs $250k a year in drug costs alone. Even now, my medical bills add up about $400k a year (I pay about $60k out of pocket) You might look at my bank statement and call me lazy, even though I never stop working. You might judge me to be foolish or ignorant. Yet, I work during chemo. I worked full time for four months recovering from surgery with tubes sticking out of my body. Even with advanced Crohn’s disease, I work an average of 55 hours a week and bring in six figures gross a year. But medical bills eat more than half. Not counting the bills I just toss in the trash... I wish I could go back in time and maybe take that safe job. But then again, the experiences I’ve had have been priceless. I’ve spent my own money to deliver medical aid to third world countries. I’m friends with three Indian chiefs in Nicaragua. I’ve performed with major blues originators. Some things I chose. Other things I didn’t. I find it distasteful to look down on someone because they have less money than you. Sometimes I ask God why I can’t have the life others have. He doesn’t answer. You have zero idea how someone’s life played out. Who are you to turn your nose up? |
