HOUSTON – Feel the need for speed? Then TxDOT has some good news for you.

A state law passed in September 2011 allowed the Texas Transportation Commission to approve 75-mph speed limit zones on certain stretches of state highways if they were found to be reasonable and safe through an engineering study.

On Thursday, the commission approved the increased speed limits for more than 1,500 miles of highway across the state.

Until the signs with the new speed limit go up, though, officials say you need to observe the posted limits.

Some of the new, 75-mph zones are near the Houston area, including I-10 in Fayette, Colorado, Austin, Jefferson and Orange counties; and I-45 in Walker and Madison counties.

Garmin tells me the normal speeds here in Florida are 80 on cruise....

and some times I doing 80 and get the crap pushed outta my ass....

Higher speed limits are always good. Most folks are going faster than 75 anyway, so this might be a little "too little, too late", but it's still a win, no matter how small, for the motorists of Texas.

It is currently 80 out in relatively unpopulated, wide open areas like West Texas, This change is to highways adjacent to more populated areas, closer to larger population centers like Houston.
