Default three employees pulled out handguns and opened fire

Taco Bell Employees Fatally Shoot Armed Robber
Police: Taco Bell Employees Fatally Shoot Armed Robber « CBS Pittsburgh

CLEVELAND (AP) – Police say three employees of a Cleveland Taco Bell opened fire on two armed robbers, killing one.

Police have said two masked robbers entered the restaurant early Wednesday and ordered three employees to lie on the floor. Police say three other employees pulled out handguns and opened fire, shooting one of the suspects six times. The other suspect ran off.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office on Thursday said the man killed was 24-year-old De’Carlo Jackson.

Investigators say Jackson was found with a loaded gun in his hand. He was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.

No one has been arrested. The employees who opened fire are said to be two 19-year-old men and a 23-year-old man.

A Taco Bell spokeswoman told Cleveland.com the company is “shocked” by the shooting and is offering counseling to employees.

If they are in an area where concealed or open carry without a permit is legal, convenience marts, fast food joints, etc. should offer free firearms training and range time to all employees and advertise that they do so. Pay for their ammo at the range, too.

When I was a programmer for a C-store chain, the policy for clerks in a robbery situation was to basically stay alive and not to worry about the money. The policy focused on protecting the company from liability first, before the well being of the clerk, but it was presented as being in the best interest of the employee. It encouraged compliance but was written in a way that you are on your own and the company is not responsible. Reason being, a shootout is likely to be deadly for someone, and that is never good for business, even if it's the bad guy that winds up dead. Robberies are forgotten about fairly quickly; dead people and blood stains take longer to get rid of. A dead clerk is really bad for business. And there is always the fear of the robber shooting first if it's known that the clerk is packing. If the company actively encouraged it's employees to arm themselves and one wound up dead because they used their weapon, even in self defense, it would be a law-suit hell.

I agree that in the big picture, c-store robberies would plummet to near nothing if would-be robbers knew for a fact they faced an armed establishment. But the way the company is going to look at it is that a couple of lawsuits with good lawyers could break them.

Those Taco-Bell employees will probably be let go quietly after the dust settles.

I think a painted outline of the body on the floor sends a message to the next fool that tries to rob them.

Yup.

I once worked with a woman who had been fired from 7/11 for not cooperating during an armed robbery attempt. A young kid, a boy really, produced a knife and demanded money. She laughed at him and told him to GTFO of her store. Oops, that violates corporate policy. Her employment was promptly terminated.

that was in Cleveland... Ohio, which is a conceal carry state. Almost all employers here do not allow workers to CCW when on the clock. My current employer does not.

As far as I am concerned those employees did the right thing. Criminals have no rights.

A mom-n-pop store can do that. They usually are the employees. I haven't seen a body line traced out, but I have seen the news article posted by the register of what happened to the last poor bastard that tried to rob them.

Where in Cleveland?? West side used to be all immigrant ethnic and crime free, 50 years ago, East side was mostly crime ridden, and except for very expensive burbs, not a place to live.....

but over the decades and the decline of industry, I suspect nothing has gone well.....
