Human remains find could end 12-year mystery of missing graduate
DNA tests are being conducted to see if the mystery of Natalee Holloway, who vanished in Aruba in 2005, can finally be resolved.

Natalee's father, Dave Holloway, hired a private investigator, and an informant was found who they say put them in contact with someone "directly involved with Joran van der Sloot in disposing of Natalee's remains"."I know there's a possibility this could be someone else and I'm just trying to wait and see."

No one has ever been charged with killing her, but the 18-year-old was last seen on the Caribbean island with convicted murderer Joran van der Sloot.

The Dutchman is serving 28 years for killing student Stephany Flores in Peruvian capital Lima - a crime that took place five years to the day Natalee disappeared.

Van der Sloot was arrested three times by Aruban authorities over Natalee's disappearance, but released each time due to lack of evidence.

He was captured on camera saying he and a friend had dumped Natalee's body in the sea after she suffered a seizure, but later claimed he said it because he was under the influence of cannabis.

Despite being in a maximum security prison, the Dutchman married another woman in 2014 and the pair had a baby later that year.

In 2010, Natalee's mother managed to sneak into the jail and confront van der Sloot.

He also allegedly tried to extort money from the family in exchange for information about where he claims their daughter is buried.

DNA testing is now taking place to find out if the remains are Natalee's. The results are expected in several weeks.

i read about this yesterday, and I sincerely hope it's her, but with an explanation:

I think it's obvious that she's dead, which is a tragedy, and her poor parents have been going through hell trying to get some closure on her death.

So for that reason, I hope it's her, and her parents/family get some closure.

The disappearance of Natalee Holloway remains an unsettling mystery after it was revealed that the skeletal remains found in Aruba do not belong to the Alabama teen.

Dr. Jason Kolowski, a forensic scientist who led the testing of the bone fragments, announced Monday that the results came back negative.

"The mitochondrial DNA bone sample was not a match to [mother] Beth Holloway," he told Oxygen. "And so it was ruled out as being Natalee Holloway."

Disclaimer: I've never been through any tragey like this.

But... At some point in time don't the parents just need to move on? I really don't understand the point about "closure". I'm a parent, and I can't even imagine what they have gone through. But life must go on.

Another heartbreak for the family.

She would be 30 now? Probably not looking anything like she did in her prom picture by now if she where alive. They should do an age progression image they might be able to locate her if she is alive that way.
