Default Civil War Skull Auction Cancelled

Auction of Civil War Soldier?s Remains Sparks Outrage, Bidding Canceled - Your4State.com

I like collecting the stuff. But this needs a proper burial and to remain in the ground.

There was a local guy that had an entire skeleton in his basement for years. He found it while they were building I-75 through here and was on part of a major battlefield. He turned it in many yrs. later. I'm sure this nearby stretch of I-75 runs over the top of several graves. It was built over the top of the Confed. entrenchments of the Battle of Resaca.

Interesting on the I-75 thing. I agree, auctioning of a dead soldiers remains is in really poor taste and just. WEIRD.

I hope his rest is easier for him than it has been for his body. Put him in the ground and honor him.

If you are ever passing through Resaca, GA. just between Chatt. and Atlanta on I-75. You are going right over the top of the entrenchments. Many have said it was done purposely. The new State Park opens next year. Just off I-75. You can still see original redoubts, trenches, etc...It will have walking trails, visitor ctr., etc...

Is this related ??...

Some of those features could be drainage though, dunno.
It looks like there's some road construction a bit south of there, so maybe that's it instead.

Thanks! It was a time when bravery and honor held a higher priority than life itself. Just prior to the war, if you had a problem with someone in civilian life you challenged the offender to a duel.

Very rough Paint map The Union moved out of Dalton, GA. and threatened to cutoff the Confed. Army from Atlanta. They moved through a gap in the mountain and out what is now Hwy. 136. During the war it was a wagon road.
The Confederates entrenched in front of Resaca on a low crest. The area in gray (I didn't cover up the I-75 symbol) exactly where I-75 passes through today. There are still a couple of original war structures in Resaca. It is rough terrain even today. Trying to move an army of men and keep their formation tight would have been near impossible during the battle.

I used to have a CW union carbine, dug up at Gettysburg, bent barrel, lockwork missing, but trigger and guard in place, so was hammer and pan....as I recall.....some finish on the stock still there, but the right side had a lead slug in toward the top, embedded into the Walnut pretty good, so IF the guy was trying to shoot it, he got killed by a headshot, dropping the rifle, and who knows how the barrel got bent....my guess is a tree, over the years....
